I am from Quebec and planning on wandering across Canada with my van and my dog.

When i don't drive-to-nowhere, i build things (a little artistic refuge on the way he he) and i do acrylic paintings. I live in my camper in the woods with my dog.

i went to school to learn carpentry skills. i tried to step in the carpenter life but lost my creativity while doing so... i want to build tiny, planet-friendly and self sufficient houses. i absolutely love doing renovation in old houses too... Things that has a soul, that feels right, you know?

I would like to find a place that allows me to step in my artistic inspiration (like a little studio) and learn some ecological building, plants, self-sufficient lifestyle... i want to share my skills in construction, renovation or maintenance that i've been doing since 4 years. I want to find a community/family that support and help each others, in order to grow.

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

I have experienced fruit picking from my first trip in British-colombia, and i really enjoyed it. I always had a garden back home and my dream is to be self-sufficient, i want to travel to learn and get inspired by this kind of lifestyle. Having hands in the dirt is my therapy. I am a carpenter (went to school and working since a year now) , so i am very manual and like to create things.

In mars 2025, I spent one month on this beautiful paradise and couldn’t ask for anything better. Laurence and Elisa are two incredible, open minded and generous souls. It felt like home the second I landed. It is quite far from both city, which was exactly what was looking; a place to create, play, make friends, explore, learn, and rest. The first … read more day Laurence gave me a tour and showed me around everything that could use some hand and imagination. I was inspired by so many things and felt like my creativity was more than welcome.
A typical day in paradise?
In the morning, we started the day with an activity. Someone different every morning, had to share/guide a little 20 minutes fun moment. Could be a hide-and-seek, painting project, yoga, meditation, walk in the forest… I really think this is the best way to start the day; connect with people and step-in different things every day. We were laughing and getting pretty creative at the end aha! For the working hours of the day, we had so many possibilities and project that we could go with the mood, and this changes everything. You got a project? Do it. Want to do some gardening? Oh yeah. Feeling creative? Get your brushes. The trust and open-minded of the host made me feel confident about my ideas to embellish the place with magic. During my stay, I built a chicken coop out of bamboo, some kitchen cabinets (my favorite wood project of all time), painted some signs… we even experience and learned the transformation of cacao with Laurence from harvest, to roast, to consume! In my free time, I was at the beach in the hamak, painting, learning Spanish with Victor and Gloria, cooking…
If you want to go, there is some things to consider:
The trip: I had some issues trying to get there at first with the boat, if the sea is too agitated they won’t let you in or will charge you too much (I was at Livingston, easier from Puerto Barrios). If you want to leave the land, wake up at 7 and wave at every boat passing and hope someone stops by. Can be tricky when you have an appointment, but you always get a ride 😉 That’s the price to pay to live on such a peace paradise (it really is)
The food; you are responsible for your own food. Bring enough groceries, especially if you are a little fancy. There is a little tienda nearby, but they have the basics (the banana bread is amazing, try it). The boat trip to Puerto barrios can be a one-day project. At the same time, I really enjoyed how it made us self-sufficient. I was cooking bread, making my oat milk and we even did our own peanut butter. That’s life. The simplicity of nature. It feels much more aligned than buying transformed food.
Water: being conscious that water is not unlimited and taking cold showers is normal (even sometimes necessarily, it can get hot sometimes)
Dorm: You sleep with other people in a dorm that has an open window, animals and insects can get in (saw a Scorpio, a lizard and a street dog under my bed during my stay) but a little check-in before bed and keeping the door shuts helps. Plus, we each had a bug-net and a fan, a luxury I was happy to use!
Overall, I am planning to come back, it was perfect. If you are planning to go, you can ask me all the questions you may have, it will be a pleasure.
I 100% recommend stopping by at Laurence’s and Elisa’s land.
