Hello there,

My name is Laetitia and I just turned 40. I moved to Santo Domingo in September 2024 for my new job at the “Allianza Francesa” as a french teacher. I work mainly with children and teenagers. I created a special project about the “protecion de los oceanos” and we are also learning sign language (in french) which they/we love !

I am on holidays from december 20th until January 7th and I wanted to enjoy that free time to do volonteering and get to know the island a little bit more and to connect with people. I live in the historical center of Santo Domingo and sometimes (often to be honnest…) I miss the calm and the beauty of nature. I am also a writer so I really enjoy peaceful moment on my free time.
Hopefully I can help you, I have a few skills :)
I worked in resorts for a few years so I am good in communication and public relations. I also worked in hostels so I can help you with the check-in/check out and cleaning. I worked in a cattle station in Australia for almost a year, I can help you in a farm or with animals in général (I am an animal lover !)
I am good at gardening and cooking, I am also a good photographer. I am fluent in spanish and I used to speak portuguese. I speak good english (it was my major at the university) and french is my mother tongue.

I travel with my female dog and we love the outdoors. I found her when she was a puppy, abandonned in the desert in Mexico. We are together for 3 years now and she is family :)
She is very friendly and loves all animals (cats, lizards, horses, dogs of course, cows…)
She is very well educated, she does not bark, does not steal food and like me she enjoys to nap after a long day.

I have spent four unforgettable months in the school teaching English and French. The kids are witty and so funny, each day was a powerful dose of happiness and fun!
The school has ponies, a rabbit, a dog and a farm… read more nearby, I really liked to take care of the animals!! During my free time I never get bored as there was plenty to do!! First the kids will always ask you to come somewhere doing something but you can also ice-skate, ski, snowboard ... We also made bonefires and parties!
The landscape is really beautiful! I have been lucky to see it covered with snow and changing in 2 weeks for a green and flourished one. The sunset is the most beautiful I have ever seen and the starry sky was just stunning!! I have also seen deers and huge foxes, mooses are more shy... The lodging was perfect, I had a private room in the girls' dorm.
This is an atypical school, I had between 2 and 4 kids in my class which made the lessons easier as you have plenty of time to work individually with them. They let me plan my lessons as I wished and as the kids are very artistic the lessons became quickly very creative. I have been free to propose whatever ideas/projects which has always been accepted with great enthusiasm!
I taught around 12 hours a week and I helped every monday morning in the kitchen where I could learn a bit of Latvian thanks to Andra, it was always a great time to cook with her. I also helped a little bit in the daily chores as cleaning the floor or washing the dishes (always with a team of kids which makes the tasks 100 times more fun!)
The teacher team is also amazing and I am so grateful that we befriended. Zane and Jakobs are like family for me now. Zane helped me a lot with my classes, she's such a creative person full of ideas and as I told her "we all need a Zane in our life". She is the kind heart of the school. Getting to know her was such a privilege !! Jakobs has become a very close friend, he's a smart person. We had lots of fun and he took me in many places that I will never forget. He introduced me to his friends and his family. I will never forget these life-sharing moments. Since the first days he has also been very concerned about how confortable I felt in the school which allowed me to find my place. I would never thank them enough for everything they have done to me. Leaving the school has been hard ...

The job is very easy, you will have the night shift, will work two days a week and you will be free the rest of the time which is really an excellent compromise!!
