Description

I'm Kendra! I have an enthusiastic interest in history and nature and an eagerness to get a feel for the unique, local flavour of new places.

I first learned about Workaway from my aunt, who has served as a host on the Sunshine Coast in British Columbia for years. As an archaeologist by trade, my work generally dries up over the winter while the ground freezes, so I thought it might be an idea to spend some of my excessive free time traveling!

I have spent years working as an archaeologist in Canada, giving me a lot of experience traveling (particularly in smaller communities) and working outside. I'm not afraid to get dirty or work hard (though... if possible I would prefer to have access to some way of washing clothes after I get down in the dirt!)

I have no known allergies and am very fond of animals. I personally own cats and have some familiarity with horses from having spent years riding when I was younger.

I enjoy both baking and cooking, especially baking, and if given the opportunity to do so I will happily make baked goods or meals for shared consumption.

I'm also into both running and hiking and am hopeful to land in places that will have reasonable opportunities for one or the other, especially running.

I am still quite Covid-conscious. I'm fully up to date on the latest vaccine boosters and I tend to wear a mask in crowded/highly populated settings. It is a personal choice and not intended as a judgment on anyone.

I don't mind lively social opportunities but I'm perfectly happy with and in many ways better suited to quieter, slower paced situations. Having the chance to sit and write would be appreciated.

I'm hoping to have a chance to explore places of historical interest and/or ecological significance, especially the lesser-known local ones, and any publicly-accessible archaeology sites or museums! I'm also eager to observe and learn about local wildlife, especially birds - and of course, to sample and learn about local culinary traditions!

I would like to improve my Spanish, French and Irish skills. I have "advanced" level Spanish and "intermediate" French per university courses, but very limited real world practical application of either language. My Irish is known only through language-learning apps, very limited, but I'm interested in learning more.

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

I am experienced and competent at doing hours of strenuous physical labour out of doors in all weather conditions, including pouring rain and blizzards.

I also have a solid customer service background from about a decade's worth of retail experience in antique shops, giving me an appreciation and feel for eclectic customers and merchandise alike. Part of my duties here have also included input on managing a social media presence for a small business.

I have a musical background, with formal education and training in music from childhood, and can play both cello and piano (cello with more proficiency, though I am currently somewhat out of practise).

I also have Basic First Aid.
