Hello, my name is Katy. I’m 62 years young, English, and a partially retired paramedic with two grown children — and in the last few months I have become a very proud grandma!

My work pattern means I have regular blocks of four weeks off every six weeks throughout the year, which gives me the perfect opportunity to travel slowly and meaningfully. It feels like the right time for a change — to explore new cultures, meet new people and contribute in a more personal way.

Until recently, I spent much of my free time in Sinai, Egypt, where I lived many years ago. I love the simplicity and beauty of life there — yoga at sunrise, snorkelling in the Red Sea, and desert safaris under vast starry skies. I speak Arabic and have been learning Spanish for the past six months (thank you, Duolingo!), and now I’m keen to practise with real people and immerse myself in conversation.

Professionally, my years as a paramedic have made me calm, practical, adaptable and very comfortable in busy or unpredictable situations. I’m reliable, hands-on and not afraid of hard work. I’m also naturally caring and attentive — qualities that extend beyond my professional life.

Some of my happiest hours are spent in my garden. I love growing things, being outdoors and getting my hands in the soil. I also love cooking — both meat and vegetarian dishes — and I’m told I’m a very good cook! I’d be delighted to share meals and learn local recipes in return.

As a proud grandma and experienced mother, I’m very comfortable with children and love spending time with them. I’m a patient, energetic and engaged babysitter.

I’m open to staying with families, helping in gardens, supporting small projects, or assisting in homes where an extra pair of capable hands is welcome. More than anything, I value kindness, conversation and cultural exchange.

I look forward to meeting you and becoming part of your world for a little while.

• Healthcare & First Aid Expertise – Experienced paramedic with many years of frontline emergency care. Calm under pressure, practical, resourceful and highly responsible. Strong knowledge of first aid and general health awareness.
• Childcare & Family Support – Mother of two grown children and a proud grandmother. Warm, patient and confident with babies and children of all ages. Experienced babysitter who is attentive, playful and safety-conscious.
• Gardening & Growing Food – Passionate home gardener with some of my happiest hours spent outdoors. Experience planting, maintaining and caring for gardens.
• Organic Farming Experience – Worked on an organic finca in Tenerife, assisting with planting, harvesting and general land maintenance. Comfortable with physical outdoor work and getting my hands dirty.
• Cooking & Meal Preparation – Confident and creative home cook (meat and vegetarian). Used to cooking for family and groups. Happy to share recipes and learn local dishes.
• Languages – Native English speaker, fluent in Arabic and currently learning Spanish. Eager to practise conversational Spanish and continue improving.
