Description
Greetings from New York State! I am excited to help and build connections with others, and absolutely thrilled for the opportunity for cultural exchange. Always eager to expand my knowledge and skills, you will find that I am a quick learner and a sponge for information. You will also find that I am a very driven and hard working individual. I am a fun, easy going, and down to earth sort of person. I work fulltime as a lead fine gardener in a small fine gardening business. I also manage the gardens for several of my own personal clients. I love to cook and learn about new dishes or food preparation methods. I can eat anything and I not a picky person. For most of my life I have maintained a large vegetable garden, to grow my own herbs and vegetables, and therefore know quite a lot about this. I enjoyed the additional hobby of canning and preserving the food from my garden. I am quite an outdoorsman: I spend most of my time outside... if not gardening, I am hiking, exploring and generally learning about nature. It is an understatement to say that I am an animal lover. Many friends call me the Beastmaster, because I am able to connect with animals very easily and I find a deep sense of joy in it. For many years I kept a large flock of chickens as pets (I love chickens so much). It may be of interest that I have many years of experience as a beekeeper. Learning in general, is something I am very enthusiastic about- there is so much to know about and never enough time, but hopefully I can always learn more and more and more!
I have already done one Workaway stay in Baden Württemberg for five weeks last winter, and it was an amazing and incredibly enriching experience for me. My German is approximately A2 level. I am shy with speaking German, but generally understand things well. I would be forever grateful for any support, encouraging, and lots of patience regarding this.

I do not know how to teach English, but it would be my honor to help anyone who would like to learn more English or practice it with me. Let me help you :) For myself, I am learning German. I am approximately A2 level. In fact, learning German is one of the things I'm most interested in and motivated by. Everyday, I work on trying to learn what I can, but I am weakest at having a conversation. I'd be forever grateful for the chance to learn and grow my German knowledge and use.

Quelles sont vos compétences ?
I'm a full time professional fine gardener. I also do gardening for my own personal clients outside of my full time job. I have a wide variety of horticulture knowledge and skills. Pruning trees and shrubs. Planting and maintaining perennial garden beds throughout the seasons with weeding, hand pruning, seasonal cutbacks, dead heading etc. I can do hard work like mulching, leaf removal, garden cleanups and renovations. I've installed simple garden walkways. I can operate all sorts of small equipment, such as chainsaws, weed whackers, lawn mowers, back pack blowers... etc. I also operate some larger equipment such as small tractors, forklift, skid steer and sometimes an excavator! I'm one of the primary truck and trailer drivers for the garden company I work for.
I also have decades of experience vegetable gardening and related skills... such as composting. I've grown all sorts of crops and am quite versed in this. I used to grow so much of my own produce, that I have also a LOT of experience with canning and preserving all sorts of things. I would grow lots of different herbs and then dry them myself also. I've taught and inspired many on how to do these kinds of skills. Implied is that I am very versed in the tools and equipment with such tasks.
During my last Workaway visit I worked alongside horses at a Reitschule, daily feeding, watering, and cleaning of the stalls.
I'm an experienced chicken keeper. I had a flock of almost 20 chickens that I kept for eggs and cared for as dear pets. I did all the work. I designed and built their chicken coop and run. Building and maintaining fences. I performed all the labor of feeding, watering, collecting eggs, cleaning the coop... etc. I've raised chicks, and I've helped hens raise chicks. I also have experience providing various first aid to injuries and can spot some illnesses.
I have experience as a beekeeper. I've studied beekeeping for a few years and then I kept bees for almost five years. The skills with beekeeping are a bit complicated and difficult to explain. I can perform inspections and monitor hive health, I can perform 'splits' of colonies to multiply hives and reduce swarming, or reallocate resources between hives in an apiary to help colonies that might be struggling. I would periodically administer mite treatments. I have caught swarms with swarm traps. I also would do all the things involved with harvesting honey. I can go on and on.
I'm very handy. I grew up in a family of carpenters where the walls of my family home went up around me as a child. I have a lot of wood working skills and knowledge. I've single handedly built an entire garden shed, chicken coops (as mentioned above)... I've done fine carpentry to construct my own furniture, such as oak book cabinets, shelves, or installed shelving. I've built many of my own bee hive boxes and other equipment. I've also helped do many renovations... including installing a new roof to my old house, as well as the roofing to the shed I built. I helped a friend build a stairs for their backyard. I've helped renovate rooms in my old house... such as removing old wall material and putting in sheetrock, mudding, sanding, painting. I have a LOT of experience painting... entire rooms... for myself and for friends as well. Implied... is that I know how to use all the associated tools for such tasks. I've very experienced with woodworking power tools and table top tools... drills, miter saws, table saws, jig saws, reciprocating saws, band saws, routers, sanders... etc. I worked in a hardware store for a very long time (for almost 20 years, and I actually still do, but only once a week)... so I'm very knowledgeable about fasteners and various hardware. I've done some simple plumbing repairs and simple electrical projects. Perhaps randomly, I have quite some experience with locksmithing.
I love to cook and have been told by all my friends that I am quite good at it. I don't know how to list skills about this, but I certainly know my way around a kitchen. My friends would also probably tell you that I am their cast iron pan guru, since I've been slowly converting them all and teaching them how to work with cast iron pans.
My formal education is actually art. I have a Bachelors of Fine Arts with a focus on studio painting. I don't talk about it much, but I am quite a skilled artist. This is probably the thing I'm the best at, but which I don't do much with currently. Its a hidden super power of sorts.

Autres infos...
If you've made it this far, you may have picked up on the fact that I have a lot of hobbies and interests. I've stuck with what I've felt were the most relevant things already. Some of my other hobbies include: archery, axe throwing, trivia nights, board games (but will probably need to be taught or refreshed on the rules), playing video games with my friends, photography, cycling, hiking, reading, crocheting, bread making, houseplants, going to the gym, decorating for Halloween (my favorite holiday) or Christmas, foraging for wild edible food, Krampus... as in my friends and I have made our own Krampus costumes and look forward to participating in our towns annual Krampusnacht!
