Hello there!

My name is Joanna, and I’m a dedicated and hardworking 32-year-old, half Swiss, half Italian. This summer, I’m excited to embark on my first Workaway experience! I’ll be taking a three-month break from my full-time job as a bar manager and would love to spend this time learning, helping, and meeting new people.

I have extensive experience working with people, mainly in the hospitality industry. Over the years, I’ve taken on various roles in hotels, including reception, housekeeping, and fine dining service. One of my greatest strengths is my patience and ability to make guests feel welcome and comfortable. Bringing a smile to people’s faces and ensuring they have a great experience is something I truly enjoy.

For the past nine years, I’ve been working in hospitality, with the last four years spent managing a bar. In this role, I lead a team, handle financial tasks, manage inventory and purchasing, and oversee the bar’s social media presence. Through this leadership role, I have developed a strong sense of responsibility and reliability. I take my duties seriously and always strive to create a positive and efficient work environment.

Beyond hospitality, I have a deep connection to nature and animals. Growing up with a large garden and many pets (cats, rabbits, dogs,birds), I developed a strong understanding of animal care from an early age. I also spent a lot of time helping my grandparents in their garden—whether it was weeding, harvesting fruit, or general upkeep.

Because of my background, I would love to work in a hostel or on a farm, where I can interact with people or work in nature. However, I’m also very adaptable and happy to help in a family setting—just show me what needs to be done, and I’ll gladly take on the task. I’m open to new experiences and always ready to lend a hand where needed.

I’m looking forward to this new adventure and can’t wait to contribute, learn, and connect with like-minded people!

I have strong communication skills and love interacting with people. As a native Swiss German speaker, I can teach both German and Swiss German.

With a degree in hospitality management, I have expertise in team leadership, organization, and customer service. I have a keen eye for detail and always keep an overview of what needs to be done.

I also enjoy cleaning and maintaining order, ensuring a pleasant and welcoming environment. No matter the task, I’m motivated, efficient, and happy to help wherever needed!
