  • Description

I've finished my university studies this year with a double degree in physics and philosophy. I have very little idea of what avenue I want to pursue in life, but I know I want to see the world and explore the opportunities that are available to me.

I love talking to people and learning about them, their culture and their ideas especially while I continue to develop my own. I hope that getting more involved in a place and a culture by working/volunteering will lend a different perspective with more depth than just visiting or touring through. I also really enjoy food, both eating and cooking.

Being involved in a community has always been rewarding. I play ultimate frisbee and have been heavily involved in my sporting club in coaching and helping to run events. My attitude to engaging with the community has been to actively demonstrate my values of including everyone, making the most of circumstances and developing together.

I am new to the site but have been recommended it by many of my friends who have travelled. I have a history of volunteering both in frisbee and as a Residential Advisor for my university where I was a support for students as well as an event organiser. I also have done a student exchange where I stayed with a host family for half a year in the north of Italy, learning the language and participating in a different lifestyle which has only increased my love of travel.

Plus de détails sur les langues qui m'intéressent
I enjoy whenever I am in a country and can communicate in the native language. I also appreciate whenever anyone attempts to communicate with me in a language I understand. I am more than happy to help people learn English or basic Italian, especially if I also have the opportunity to learn another language at the same time. I also have a deep interest in how languages and cool words come about and adapt over time.

  • Quelles sont vos compétences ?

Most recently my jobs have been focused largely on teaching and coaching people from all age groups and walks of life. I have been a frisbee coach in schools, a maths and science tutor for high school students and a technology trainer for primarily elderly and disabled people. In all of these jobs' communication, empathy and relationship building have been integral.

I have bachelor's degree in physics and in philosophy which has given me some basic coding skills for data analysis and improved the clarity and quality of my written communication. As part of my studies, I have been able to explore various fields and had to learn to apply different criteria and skillsets in different contexts.

I enjoy the challenge of learning new skills, both within academic and less academic contexts. I worked as a laborer in a boat building factory for a short time which involved learning a completely new workstyle and some basic tool skills. I like fixing things around the house and on my car myself when I can, but I am not afraid to ask for an explanation or demonstration when I am lost.

Languages interest me and if I am in a place for an extended period of time I love trying to learn some of the local lingo. While on exchange in Italy I learned the language to around a B2 level (although according to my host family the only thing holding me back was my lack of hand gestures). I'm also happy to help anyone who wants to learn about my language (English) and culture (Australian).

I also have experience in running, organising and emceeing events. Both as part of my frisbee club and through my involvement in teams and committees for the university halls of residence. This has involved both teamwork and initiative, especially over the adapting conditions of the COVID-19 lockdowns in Melbourne. I enjoy finding the limits of what I can do for an event and adapting it to fit a unique and dynamic scenario.

Growing up in a country town I have always had animals to look after, like ducks, chickens and a dog. This taught me some basics of caring for animals as well as inspiring a desire to eventually be as self-sufficient as possible or at least to have the skills to do so. I am no expert, but I enjoy cooking for myself and others, particularly when I can use some produce i have had a hand in growing or caring for.
