Description

My name is Hilde, a 55-year-old woman from Opwijk, a Flemish village on the outskirts of Brussels, Belgium. I have a family with three young adult children. After working for 26 years as an HR manager at Pietercil, I’ve decided to give my professional life a new direction. And what better way to start this new chapter than by exploring the world? I just finished a wonderful journey in C.A. and experienced a first Workaway stay.

I enjoy music (also playing djembé since 20 yrs), cooking, connecting people, and making sure others have a good time. Every week, I volunteer in catering, taking care of hospitality for performing artists. I’m also happy to help with general tasks such as cleaning, painting, and gardening.

For me, it’s more than just visiting places — it’s about truly immersing myself in different ways of life, meeting people with unique perspectives, and learning from their traditions, food, stories, and everyday routines. Each journey, whether far from home or close by, feels like an invitation to grow, to connect, and to see the world through fresh eyes. Traveling keeps me curious, open-minded, and full of wonder. So I have visited several countries : Almost everywhere in Europe; Asia : Thailand, Laos, Cambodja, Vietnam, Myanmar/Burma, India, Malaysia, Indonesia; Africa : Senegal, Gambia, Maroc, Tanzania; South/Central America: Brazil, Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, Honduras and US: California

I speak Dutch, French, and English, and have a basic knowledge of German and Spanish.
