We are a bilingual couple proficient in English and Afrikaans, adept and self-sufficienct. We considering cooking and household care life skills, rather than gender roles. We have found that elminate, rather than organise, is a handy motto when travelling.
Hein is currently between contracts and available for standard Workaway hours. Financial constraints after lockdowns limit our ability to accept invitations abroad, so invites in South African and Namibia get preference.
We will under no circumstances pay a organisation or company to volunteer for them, but we're enthusiastic about exploring destinations not listed on our profile where our skills could be beneficial. We're also eager to acquire new skills for long-term projects.
Anthony works remotely, requiring a stable internet connection and workspace during office hours. He's open to volunteering during early evenings, weekends, and public holidays. Although most hosts are reluctant to accommodate a working nomad and his partner, we have successfully managed it at Wild Lubanzi. We're open to long-stay house-sitting, language exchange and companionship opportunities if nothing else presents itself.
We are open to travelling abroad on long-term stays, but securing a long-stay visa for South Africans internationally poses some challenges, typically requiring an invitation from a host, NGO or organization involved in heritage, handicap care, or cultural preservation before being able to apply for Visa's to cross borders. In some areas, it is not safe for same-sex couples to enter.
Anthony:
With extensive experience in Print, Packaging, and Digital Design, I've held roles ranging from IT support to team leadership, prepress specialization, graphic design, product photography, data capturing, and training within the FMCG printing plate production industry. In recent years, I've worked as a freelance creative and contract-based remote worker, dabbling in digital and AI art.
My availability for standard volunteer hours may vary due to remote work. I typically work regular office hours during the week and can only volunteer during early mornings, early evenings, public holidays, and weekends. Due to the nature of my work, a stable internet connection and suitable workspace, even if it is a table in a quieter corner of the bedroom, are non-negotiable.
My interests include medicinal plants, herbs, cooking, and vineyards. Proficient in street and urban photography, I excel in photo post-processing, color grading, and image manipulation.
I've volunteered in various capacities, from photography at orphanages to assisting in managing a B&B in Namibia, and arranging activities for visitors interested in excursions in the area, and sucessfully organising affiliations with local companies specialising in tourist-driven activities for the B&B.
Hein:
As a South African with a passion for travel, nature, and animals, I've had diverse experiences. I worked with a Carnival team in the US for nine months, followed by four years with Tesco in the UK as a merchandiser.
Returning to South Africa, I ventured into self-employment, specializing in handyman work such as flooring, screening, leveling, and cabinet making. Additionally, I managed maintenance at a Crèche and contracted as a field technician in the telecommunications field for a few years.
While certified in working at heights, rigging, and firefighting, I prefer to avoid extreme heights due to physical strain, especially in severe weather. Certified in Level 1 First Aid, I prioritize safety in various work environments.
Eager to learn and undertake hands-on tasks, I'm open to new challenges and opportunities. Previous contracts have included driving with a code 10 license, delivering hazardous chemicals, and preparing frozen meals on order, and for retirees.Centres d’intérêt

Autres infos...
Our hobbies include hiking, cycling, walking, exploring forgotten locations, swimming and some herbology. We occasionally taken photos for eGGSA in old forgotten, or lost cemeteries for genealogy indexing purposes when we come across them. eGGSA captures data from headstones and tombs from burial sites, indexing the information for genealogy research.
Love working with animals, but also find satisfaction in enabling people with transfer of skills, by assisting or helping them, acquiring new skills ourselves, and have the opportunity for some cultural exchange in the process. We have a strong work ethic, but each of us has his own strengths to suit a number of positions, entirely on the opposite spectrum of each other. We do enjoy working together on projects when the opportunity presents itself.Informations complémentaires
