Description
Howdy!
My name is Gillian. I'm a 26-year-old Canadian tree planter who works as a Registered Dietitian specializing in sports nutrition. Part of that travel includes walkaways since I love giving back to whichever country/city I am visiting. I am a firm believer that the best way to fully experience one's culture is to immerse yourself in their day-to-day... if they'll have you, of course! Plus, this community is full of incredible adventure opportunities, which is always a huge bonus since I’m constantly trying to add checkmarks to my ever-growing bucket list.
My simple pleasures as a traveler include coffee breaks, hiking up majestic mountains, talking with locals as well as other travelers, reading, cooking with new ingredients, biking around town, growing as a person through the people that I meet... oh, and sitting & watching the world go by!
I believe that I will be a wonderful addition to your work away as I have a wonderful attitude, a strong work ethic, great people skills, and a never-ending desire to learn from others.
Can't wait to meet you, cheers!

I would be more than happy to help you learn English or French! I have spoken, read, and written in both languages since I can remember and I have even studied at the university level in both. I would also love to learn Spanish! I have been practicing on and off on my own for about 1 year. I had the chance to practice more and gain some confidence during a solo trip to Costa Rica as well as during my 3 weeks as a Pilgrim on the Camino de Santiago in Spain but would need to immerse myself much more to be able to see some real progress!

Quelles sont vos compétences ?
During my 3.5-year bachelor's degree in nutrition, I did many months of internships in different areas of the field such as public health, private companies, and counseling specializing in eating disorders. Thanks to those experiences, I learned valuable skills such as developing strong interpersonal relationships, marketing, collaboration, adaptability, etc. Thanks to my time spent in class, I acquired strong oral and written communication skills, time management skills, and organizational skills.
Of course, the experience that I have found to be most telling of who I am is my 4 years as a Canadian Tree Planter. Indeed, this job not only forces you to develop a very strong work ethic despite difficult working conditions but it also helped me develop a positive attitude no matter the situation as well as my ability to live among many people who share different views and backgrounds.
Other skills that I have gained through the odd summer job include:
- Hosting and presentation skills. I had the chance to fine-tune these when I spent a few months working in an Escape Room as a Game Master. Those skills even helped me be elected as the student speaker at my university graduation!
- Prioritisation and detail orientation. Working as both a hostess and a waitress during different periods of my schooling really forced me to not only get good a completing many tasks under a great amount of pressure but also thought me how to do it while always having a smile on my face! (Of course, sometimes that was just to get a good tip;) )

Autres infos...
If you have taken the time to read my profile and get this far then, hopefully, I am a candidate of interest to you. To help make your decision, let me share a bit more about what I do in my free time!
I love playing Chess as well as the classic game The Settlers of Catan. I could easily spend an entire afternoon playing either one. I have also recently gotten much more into reading. Like most students, I had a hard time finding the time (and motivation) to read during my undergrad but ever since I finished my schooling, I find myself craving a good latte & reading session!
That is another thing about me, I LOVE coffee and all the things you can do along with a good cup of joe: coffee & reading, coffee & chess, coffee & deep conversations, coffee & breakfast, coffee & completing a work away profile...
I am also quite an active person. Rarely does a day go by where I do not at least find some sort of physical activity to do on my own or, preferably, with others. This includes working out at the gym or at home, visiting the dog park with my old pup, going for a winter run, hiking, cross-country skiing, swimming laps, biking, etc. Indeed, my favorite way to travel is by walking around :)
Finally, I am quite a big fan of cooking. I am not the most skilled (ironic given my choice of degree) but I love trying new recipes and am a great sous-chef to anyone who does know more! In general, I like to eat a more plant-based diet but I am more than happy to eat anything that is given to me!
Thank you for reading my profile and I cannot wait to meet you!!
Cheers! Merci!

Firstly, the children attending that school will make your heart melt (even if you don’t feel 100% comfortable around kids like I do lol). Every child is so kind and… read more
