I just finished my masters degree in computer science in Germany and I am currently moving to Barcelona to have new experiences and because I am craving for warmer latitudes! 😎☀️

I am a very social person and enjoy working in teams. I'd like to work on projects where I can help, create and repair to contribute to a sustainable society. I care deeply about sustainability in all its aspects 🌍🌱🐌🪸🦀

I love making music with others (I play the piano, but pick up any instrument pretty quickly) and I love having deep talk over a coffee or a craft beer 🪗 🍻

Quelles sont vos compétences ?
Apart from computer science, I fluently speak multiple languages, I am a competent craftsman especially in woodworking/carpentry, and I have some experience with electronic and electric circuitry. In any case I pick up new skills quickly. But my most important skill is problem solving: It often takes me only seconds to pinpoint a problem and come up with solutions how to fix or improve it.

This was my best workaway experience! Sigurd and Andrés are the best hosts I could have wished for (Erik wasn't there during my stay). It was a great pleasure having Fabio as a volunteer in our place! He took great care of our dogs and always helped out around the house when necessary. We also assembled furniture together. Fabio is reliable, easy-going and a great chef :)

This was an excellent workaway experience, even though I stayed for only 1 week and in december (in winter).
All the dogs (80+) are super friendly and cuddleable (some are shy though) and every kennel can be entered without any problem (just make sure the dogs don't escape 😅). There was only a single dog with a biting history, but he is a nice and… read more calm dog, he just doesn't want to be touched (we were warned about him immediately and we were never afraid of him). Altogether you can really tell that the dogs are well kept, fed and happy!
The place is managed by Carmen, who is really nice and speaks very good english (and spanish and catalan, obviously). Carmen comes by usually every day and checks on the dogs, the volunteers and the place in general. If there is anything you need, she always finds a way to help you. During the week there are usually other volunteers from the area (locals and expats from germany, the uk, the netherlands, ...) who come by regularly and help the volunteers but also do veterinary and administrative work.
During your free time you can go into the kennels and play with the dogs, but you can also grab a harness and have a walk (or trip) with them. If you haven't been there, go to the Delta del Ebre peninsula: it's a great hiking spot with a beautiful, unusual landscape, and the dogs love it there!
There is a car which can be used by the volunteers (groceries, trips, ...) if you have a driving license.
The general confort level of the place can be compared to staying in a van or campervan at a campsite with fixed services: most places (bedrooms, kitchen, sitting room/veranda, bathroom) are more or less open to the outside and unheated, thus cool in winter, and it can get quite chilly on clear nights (5°C). There is a gas stove for the veranda and hot water bottles for the evenings. The campervans, where the volunteers sleep, are nice and comfy, but badly insulated: in winter use thick duvets, take 1 or 2 water bottles to bed (or a dog 🐶 or two 🐶🐶) and maybe grab a pullover and a scarf (err on the warm side and see what you need to stay warm).
Being off-grid, there is no wifi, but excellent reception with superb 5G internet all over the place. Electricity is only available in the kitchen area (not in the campervans where you sleep), so remember to charge your phone during the day/evening or bring a power bank.
The dogs can get loud at night but we haven't had big barking concerts during the night, so I didn't need my earplugs. As soon as someone walks around in the dark (e.g. to the toilet) there is some barking, but they stop right away, so you can fall back asleep.
All in all a wonderful experience in all its facets: the dogs, the place, and the people! I'll come back (if not for volunteering, to adopt a dog 😍🐕).
