  • Description

Hi, I’m Daria, 29 years old and from Germany.
I’ve freshly graduated in social sciences and currently exploring the world with a curious heart and an open, adventurous mind.
I’ve always been fascinated by how people live, connect, and make sense of the world around them. I love diving into different perspectives, hearing people’s stories, and seeing life through their eyes. That’s probably why I feel so drawn to meaningful exchange, shared experiences, and anything that brings people together.

I just spent the last couple of months in Indonesia travelling, surfing, hiking, and recently volunteering in a community-based project focused on coral reef restoration, English education for children, and cultural exchange with locals. It was such an enriching experience and confirmed how much I value hands-on work, community, and contributing to something larger than myself.

When it comes to interests, I'd say I'm someone with a wide range. I absolutely love being in nature and staying active. From hiking and cycling to skiing in the winter and surfing, even though I’m definitely more soul surfer than pro. Yoga has been a part of my life since I was a child, and I’m currently diving deeper into different styles of meditation.

Music is another big part of my life. I play both guitar and piano( also not exactly a professional but I just really enjoy it!), and it’s one of the ways I express myself and unwind. I also enjoy painting, especially when I feel the need to slow down and reconnect creatively. I love an artistic and hands-on approach to life.

I’ve been working in hospitality since I was 15 and have gathered experience on many levels. At 16, I worked in a kitchen where I learned the (sometimes messy) basics, like breaking down chicken and at 18 I had a student job preparing food like salads, pizzas, schnitzels, and even cutting steaks. Also I spent some time in Australia working at a Bar, which I really enjoyed! After my studies, I worked as a service staff member in a Michelin-starred restaurant in Switzerland, where I learned to operate under pressure while staying calm, precise, and professional. Whether in the kitchen or front of house, I’ve always enjoyed creating a welcoming experience for others and being part of a well-functioning team.

Beyond that, I love working with my hands. I enjoy fixing up bikes, building things like furniture, painting walls, and I’ve helped with flooring and wallpapering (not a pro, but I’ve seen and done a lot alongside others). I like getting involved, learning from others, being active, and contributing wherever I can.

Might sound weird now but trees are very special to me (all sorts)! Their presence, strength, and quiet wisdom inspire me deeply. Whether it’s sitting under one, walking through a forest, or just noticing their uniqueness, trees help me feel connected and grounded.

Food is another passion of mine! Not just eating it (though that too!), but especially preparing and sharing it. I find so much joy in creating meals for others and in the process itself, from chopping fresh vegetables to exploring new flavors and textures. Cooking is one of my favorite ways to care for people.

Animals have a special place in my heart as well, especially dogs and horses. My aunt runs a horse farm and a dog rescue center, and I’ve been riding horses there since I was little. Growing up surrounded by animals gave me a deep sense of responsibility and connection to the natural world.

Personality-wise, I’d say I’m outgoing, thoughtful, curious, and grounded. I enjoy bringing people together, creating space for others to feel seen, and embracing different viewpoints without rushing to judge. My friends often say I’m warm, empathetic, and fun to be around. I hope that’s true!

Right now, I’m taking time to explore, contribute to meaningful projects, and learn through real-life experiences before diving into my next chapter (not entirely sure what that will look like yet though haha).

Workaway feels like the perfect way to do that: by meeting people from all walks of life, learning new skills, and being part of something purposeful.
I’m motivated, reliable, hands-on, open to new challenges and always up for a good conversation over coffee or a long walk :)
Looking forward to connecting, exchanging, and hopefully working on something meaningful together!

Plus de détails sur les langues qui m'intéressent
I have a strong passion for languages and for using them as a way to connect with others. I grew up bilingual , my father speaks English, my mother German, and spent part of my early childhood in Luxembourg, where I was also exposed to French and Luxembourgish. This multilingual environment shaped my love for languages from a young age. I'd love to learn Spanish and Italian at some point! I’ve had the opportunity to teach both German and English in very different contexts. For one year, I gave German lessons to underage asylum-seeking Ukrainian children in Germany. More recently, I taught English to children on a small, remote island in Indonesia. A completely different but equally rewarding experience. To me, language is more than grammar and vocabulary, it’s a key to understanding people and their culture. English often serves as a “bridge” language, and I enjoy helping others gain confidence in using it. I’m patient, empathetic, and happy to adapt to the individual learning pace and needs of each student. Whether through structured lessons or informal conversation, I love supporting people in their language journey.

  • Quelles sont vos compétences ?

I’m a reliable, open-minded, and flexible person who enjoys working hands-on and adapting to new environments. I’ve always loved being outdoors and spent a lot of time in my grandparents’ vegetable garden growing up. Gardening and planting have been a passion of mine ever since . I truly enjoy getting my hands dirty and seeing things grow.
Back in school, I was part of the student council team where I represented my fellow students and gained valuable experience in communication, responsibility, and teamwork. I’ve also lived in shared flats (6 people) for several years, which has helped me become good at navigating group dynamics and creating a positive, goal-oriented atmosphere.
During my studies, I worked for two years at a research institute, where I was responsible for project organization and documentation. Additionally, I spent two years working in a “clearing” residential group for unaccompanied minor refugees – teenagers who had just arrived in Germany. My tasks included organizing medical appointments, handling insurance matters, coordinating with the youth welfare office, and helping the boys find a long-term living situation that matched their needs. But a big part of the job was simply being there for them in daily life: listening, supporting, and building trust. This experience was deeply meaningful and helped me grow personally.

I bring strong organizational skills, a sense of responsibility, and a genuine interest in people and community. Whether it’s working in the garden, helping in social projects, or trying something completely new. I’m always ready to learn and contribute.

  • Autres infos...

Outside of work , I love staying active and creative. I’ve been playing tennis since I was a child , it’s a sport I’ve always enjoyed and still play regularly. I also recently picked up my guitar again, which has been a fun way to relax and reconnect with music.
While traveling, I discovered a love for card games . I’m always up for learning new ones or playing familiar favorites. I also enjoy baking and, although I’m not exactly an expert, I find knitting really fun and calming.
I enjoy trying out new things and learning from others.
