  • Description

    Hi Everyone,
I'm Daisy, a 19 year old from Philadelphia, PA USA. I will be taking a gap year September 2022-June 2022 to travel and meet new people, and hopefully work on projects that will make a difference in people's lives. I love connecting with people through laughs, stories, and shared experiences. I really enjoy working customer service jobs ( I know, not always a popular opinion!) because it allows me to interact with lots of people.

Nothing makes me happier than trying new things and saying yes to as many opportunities as possible. I try not to waste any time, so I am always up for weekend adventures, late night conversations around fires, and impromptu plans. I enjoy hiking, dancing, and learning about the histories of the places I visit.

I am interested in reproductive health, women's empowerment, and working with people with special needs. I have a degree in Health Care Studies, and I hope to one day specialize in reproductive health. When I was 14, I planned my own trip to India where I volunteered in an orphanage for teenage girls removed from underage marriages and abusive families. Ever since, I have yearned to form similar connections with people from all over. The trip made me realize I wanted to pursue a career where I could make a lasting difference in the lives of others.

When home, I can be found searching for salamanders under logs or frogs in the creek. My family had an animal show, where we would bring reptiles, amphibians, and more to schools, so I have experience handling and caring for all sorts of critters. I am happy to feed, clean up after, walk, bathe, and cuddle any animal that needs some attention :)

I would love to learn some Spanish. Though I took Spanish classes throughout high school and college, I only was able to learn how to read and write basic sentences. I would like to work on Spanish pronunciation and conversational skills.

  • Quelles sont vos compétences ?

I am an International Rescue and Relief major in college, where I am training to respond to global disasters. In September 2021, I was deployed to Grand Isle, Louisiana to help with hurricane relief following Hurricane Ida. I cleared debris, helped distribute supplies to the local community, and prepared meals for my fellow students and the National Guard (up to 300+ meals a day). I also did domestic tasks for our team, such as laundry, dishes, and sweeping. I am comfortable looking after large groups of people at once, and I am used to making due with little supplies.

This has also helped when I have worked in hostels as a receptionist, cleaning lady, and tour organizer, all of which I really enjoy doing.

Outside of my degree, I have lots of experience teaching and caring for children. I created and led my own afterschool class to teach American kids, ages 4-14, about other countries and cultures. Each class consisted of a craft, a physical activity (like sport or game), and a food from whichever country we learned about that week.

I also was a teacher's assistant in a special education classroom for 2.5 years. I worked with nonverbal autistic children, children with Down syndrome, and children with various behavioral disorders. Through games, dancing, and crafts we worked on motor and communication skills.

As mentioned in my profile description, I have lots of experience working with animals.

Finally, I have an associate's degree in Health Care Studies.

  • Autres infos...

I enjoy gardening, journaling, and long road trips.

I am not religious, but I attend a Seventh Day Adventist college, and I grew up with religious friends, so I am always curious to learn about other people's religious beliefs.
