Description

Hi, I’m Christine — born and bred in South Africa and currently living in Pretoria. I retired in 2022 and finally have the freedom to travel at a slower, more meaningful pace.
I love gardening and have a special passion for roses — I grow 76 different varieties at home. Animals have always been part of my life; after recently losing three long-time companions to old age, I now share my home with a cat named Bushka, a canary, and a turtle.
I’m a proud mother of two adult daughters and a very involved grandmother. I help with school routines, homework, and exam preparation for my grandchildren, which has strengthened my patience and adaptability.
Professionally, I owned my own signage business (Lady Signs) for over 20 years and later worked with an NPO in event planning, course facilitation, and counselling support. I’ve studied Narrative Therapy and Counselling as well as NLP and Life Coaching.
Since 2018, I’ve spent many weekends running a small stall at local country markets, selling a health coffee containing Reishi mushroom extracts. This has also kept me active, socially engaged, and purposeful during my retirement years.
I’m even-tempered, practical, and enjoy a tidy, well-run environment. I’m relatively fit, practise yoga regularly, enjoy walking, painting for relaxation, and smartphone photography.
Travel is my greatest passion — I’ve visited 25 countries so far and still have many on my list. Greece being next. Workaway allows me to stretch my retirement budget while immersing myself in local cultures and contributing in a meaningful way.
This will be my first solo travel experience, which I see as a personal growth challenge.
I may be new to solo travel, but I bring maturity, reliability, and a genuine desire to help wherever I go. I look forward to meeting hosts, contributing to their daily lives, and forming lasting connections along the way.

I bring a broad range of practical skills, life experience, and people-focused abilities developed through many years of self-employment, community work, and family involvement. I owned and managed my own signage business for over 20 years, which required strong organisation, reliability, problem-solving, and the ability to work independently while meeting deadlines. Later, my work with a non-profit organisation involved event planning, course facilitation, and supportive counselling, strengthening my communication skills, empathy, and adaptability.
In my personal life, I am hands-on, dependable, and comfortable with responsibility. I have extensive experience with childcare and supporting school routines, homework, and exam preparation, as well as caring for animals and maintaining a well-run home. I enjoy gardening and take pride in keeping spaces tidy and organised. I am calm, patient, even-tempered, and physically active, with the ability to contribute consistently and positively to daily tasks. I value mutual respect, clear communication, and doing my part well.
