Description

Hi! My name is Asta. I am 27 years old and live in Copenhagen, Denmark. I am currently looking for a host in Italy or Greece for the month of July, potentially overlapping with August. I am especially interested in farm stays and renovation projects, where I can work and live with kind people.

I am a very open and curious person who loves to learn and meet new people. My curiosity has taken me to many places and given me a broad range of skills. My first Workaway trip was in 2017, when I stayed at a permaculture farm in France. Since then, I have developed a strong passion for permaculture, which has led me on several Workaway trips, a four-month course at Vestjyllands Højskole, and even influenced my studies in Political Science. I would love to learn more and share my knowledge in this field.

I have loved cooking and baking since I was a child. During a Workaway stay, I worked at a restaurant run by a host who used their own crops in the kitchen. I built on this experience and later worked for a couple of years as a cook back home in Denmark. I still love to cook, especially for a community - and let me know if I should bring my sourdough!

I am very passionate about sustainability and equality, which led me to study Political Science at the University of Copenhagen, where I am currently a master's student. I have tried to incorporate these interests into my studies, and I am currently taking courses on decolonization and alternative economics. In the latter, I am combining my interest in permaculture with academic work by writing a paper on why it can be difficult for permaculture farms to access EU agricultural subsidies. I would be happy to share my knowledge on this or related topics if there is interest.

I am very community-oriented, which is why I live in a dormitory with a vibrant social life and take part in volunteer work. My dormitory is 403 years old and full of traditions, and home to around 100 kind people. Here, I help organize communal dinners, build raised beds, take on administrative tasks, and go on foraging trips. I am currently also helping to organize a knowledge and culture festival that will take place at the end of August. My volunteer work includes supporting refugees who need help building a life in Denmark or simply someone to talk to. In the past, I have also tutored children whose parents did not have the capacity to help them with schoolwork.

As mentioned, I have many interests and love new experiences. I have helped renovate my parents’ vacation home, assisted at a philosophy course, worked as an art assistant, walked the French route of the Camino de Santiago, and traveled to many different places. Last but not least, I love knitting - especially Faroese patterns, as my mother is from the Faroe Islands.

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

I can offer all kinds of help and have a lot of different working experiences - I'm also very open to learn something new!
- A few years back, I went to quiet af few workaway places and worked mainly with
gardening and permaculture, which started my interest in permaculture and
sustainability. I've since then taken permaculture classes at Vestjyllands Højskole and
explored it in privat.
- During my workaway travels, I also worked at a restaurant in France. I've since then
worked as a waitress and in the kitchen at a café in Aalborg (now closed) and the the
kitchen of the French restaurant Juliette in Aarhus. I also love cooking and baking in my
sparetime!
- I also worked with cleaning at two hotels with Workaway and I spend a year working in
cleaning at a nursinghome.
- Or though I don't have any professional experience, I love children and often look after my brothers children!
