Description
Hi there,
I'm Annegien, a 31 year old Dutch woman.
I'm a social worker in the Netherlands, but I recently quit my job to spend some time abroad. I want to learn Portuguese and DuoLingo wasn't doing enough for me, so what better way to learn a new language than going to the place of origin?
As a social worker I love working with people (children and adults), but the truth is that a lot of it involves writing rapports and staring at a computer screen. That's why I'm looking forward to spending more time outside in nature and working with my hands.
I love meeting new people, animals and nature.
(The dog in my picture is not travelling with me).
In my free time I enjoy hiking, working out, reading, swimming and baking. Travelling has always been a big passion of mine. During my twenties I lived abroad for multiple years in different countries.
My life has recently changed quite a bit and now I have the opportunity to travel again and let go of the 9-5 lifestyle that had started to creep in.
I'm a new Christian and my faith has given me a lot of strength to help me through a difficult season in life. It would be nice to meet like-minded people, but I also have a lot of family and friends that are non-believers. Being respectful and kind to one another is very important to me.
Over the next few months I would love to find one or multiple Workaway places where I can learn and practice Portuguese but also learn new skills and meet local people.

In the past I've worked on different types of farms (fruit picking), while living overseas. I also worked in hostels/hotels doing receptionist work and housekeeping.
I have no professional experience as a carpenter or painter or anything like that, but those type of skills interest me and if someone can show me how to do it, I'd really like to learn. I recently helped my friend paint her new house and it's something that I really enjoy doing.

This was my first workaway experience and it could not have been better!
Nathan is very kind, genuine and easygoing.
The circumstances where a little tricky, which made the experience even more interesting. Let me explain: Portugal had the most extreme storm right before I got to the Quinta. There was no electricity and… read more
