Description
After five years working in journalism and seeing many horrible things, I really want to help prevent them from happening instead of just reporting them afterwards. That's why I quit my job and is now doing a masters in Environment and Development, so that I could understand and explore what the world is like, why it is like this, and can it be something more. I think traveling around and speaking to people from different cultures contributes to this dream of mine :)

I have been working in journalism and has good writing and people skills; I have been an intern at World Animal Protection, and cares greatly about animals; I have volunteered at a school teaching English to children of migrant workers, so I'm good with kids. I have good artistic taste and likes making handicrafts; I draw my own bags so I can paint a little as well; Also, if there's anything I can't do at the moment, I can learn, cause that's how you know how to do things, right?

I love classic music, especially those of Chopin; I love writing novels, especially about adventure and friendship; I love movies; I recently started to appreciate Peking Opera, and is more than willing to share this new passion of mine with anyone. I bring Chinese tea with me wherever I go and would be happy to share them with any host who is willing to have me :) oh, and I also happen to be a muggle (a wizard and witch-friendly one).

I have been meaning to write this feedback earlier but I had no idea where to start. My BFF asked me how did the Workaway go, and I was like "how much time do you have?” If anyone reading this is still hesitating whether to go here, just go for it, and expect an experience of a lifetime.

David (and Sage, by the time I was on board) are both… read more amazing, wonderful, incredible, remarkable, fantastic people. David has been sailing since five, and he really knows his sailing stuff. He is extremely knowledgable, and knows so many stories both contemporary and in history that you will never get bored. What’s special about David is that not only does he know stuff, he is also extremely patient and talented in explaining them, and since my mother tongue is not English, I can tell sometimes he has been going the extra mile to explain in words he thinks I can understand. He is quite humorous and a really easy-going guy to be around with. He is super generous and kind, the winter coat I brought with me turned out to be fancy rubbish in the chilling cold of Norway, so during my stay there David lent me his winter coat, his gloves and a sleeping bag, etc. He cares greatly about his friends, as I can tell from the personal stories he told me. He is also so sweet in a silent way, when someone complained (not seriously, just mentioned or muttered) that the coffee is so strong, he bought a new bag of coffee when he went to the supermarket.

So although we did not sail during my stay, still I felt I learned so much and made such good friends with such good people. And it wasn’t just about sailing. I learned that there is another way of being. I received many good suggestions from David. I have been very careful when traveling alone as a woman, although fear did not stop me from hitting the road, I have been taking extra caution when doing so, and sometimes this means not trusting people enough. I would say that meeting David and Sage has in fact increased my overall faith in people, and that is not an exaggeration. Before I came I never thought that I would actually start caring this much about other people’s lives in a little more than a weeks’ time, but now I really do, and David is the kind of person that makes it happen and happen so easily.

The only downside of the experience would be that this is my first time using Workaway, and David and his Betty has set the bar extremely high, but other than that, the experience was perfect :)

Qi (tchi) is a really special soul. She is so unique and full of kind and caring energy. She came onboard with so much excitement and enthusiasm. It was really great to have her here. Especially in the depths of winter in Norway.
