Description
We are a non-profit NGO based in Slovenia. Our main focus is on education, campaigns and hands-on action (getting our hands dirty) with the aim of preserving the natural and cultural heritage of Haloze - one of the most beautiful regions of Slovenia that is especially known for its excellent wines and preserved nature.
The region also belongs to the Natura 2000 network of protected areas and offers a variety of rare species and habitats to admire. It is specially known for its biodiversity that includes over 20 species of wild orchids and over 30 species or rare and endangered fungi among many other things. Haloze is the perfect place for lovers of nature.
The work we do here ranges from gardening to restoring old houses and tools, to collecting wild herbs and identifying local fungi. Sometimes even felling trees, stacking firewood and cooking at a picnic. We can assure you: there will be no boredom for any lover of preserved nature and outdoor work.Types d'aide et opportunités d'apprendre

Echange culturel et opportunités d'apprendre
Our association organizes at least one public event per month. These events are usually educational in nature and relate to the natural and cultural heritage of the area. We manage a small farm and are currently renovating another 200-year-old traditional house. All volunteers can attend events, participate in the renovation and learn about the local nature as well as traditional building methods. In addition, we cook traditional Slovenian food in a vegan way and live very close to Ptuj - the oldest city in Slovenia. The skills and knowledge you can gain at our place depends on the season, but our members come from very different backgrounds with different education and therefor the amount of knowledge you can gain is almost endless and also hard to define. Some things you will learn for sure are eco-no till gardening methods, how to care for donkeys, wild food foraging and cooking traditional Slovenian (but vegan!) food. We love to meat people from different countries and cultures and to work together on projects that benefit the future.

Aide
Daily chores are:
- help in the kitchen (chopping vegetables, washing the dishes...)
- feeding the animals (donkeys and chickens...)
- gardening work depends on the season (pulling weeds, harvesting vegetables and fruits...)
- We will be cooking together. Mostly for ourselves and occasionally for other society members.
Other work is highly dependent on the season. It could be mowing the grass, chopping wood, stacking firewood, cleaning the pond, fruit tree pruning, compost mixing, restoring of old houses, work with wood... there is no shortage of all kind of work where we live. We will find something to do for everybody, no matter the experience level or physical strength. Most task will be done together and we are very happy to share our skills with others.Langues

Sleeping is possible in a caravan next to the community house or in a tent provided by the community. It depends on how much you want to sleep in contact with nature. The plot is located far from the road and most human-produced noise. You will not sleep better in your life! You will get all necessary bed linen from us if needed (as well as sleeping pads in case you choose to sleep in the tent) . We share a bathroom, toilet and kitchen in the community house.
Meals will be prepared together. We only prepare vegan food here (because its the environmentally friendly options). Together we will cook some traditional farmers food of this region.Autres infos...
Our society does not own a car. Transportation is possible via pubic transport but sadly not during the weekends. The closest market and bus station are about 1 hour on foot away. The closest hospital is at least 2 hours away - keep that in mind if you have any health issues that might require medical attention. Occasionally or in the case of emergencies a vehicle can be arranged. All the food here is vegan. You can bring your own food if you like, but we would prefer if you eat with us for the duration of your stay.
In your free time of you can visit the oldest city in Slovenia (Ptuj) that is only 15 minutes away by car or about 2 hours via public transport. There you have many options for all kinds of activities. There is also a few other workaway hosts nearby where you can meet other people doing volunteer work. You can do guided mushroom picking tours or wild food foraging tours with members of our society. Don't worry - we will find something interesting for everybody.Informations complémentaires
