    Description

An opportunity to spend time in and near one of the world's most underrated capital cities and experience rural (but not remote!) life on my hobby farm.

After 25 years (17 abroad) I have returned to my family home which is 20 acres about 25km outside Canberra. The property has been barely touched since Dad went into a home and Mum moved into town about six years ago.

It's now my turn to start the property's, and my own, next chapter, starting with the gardens and clean-up. In addition to resurrecting gardens and DIY in and around the house, I also have about forty year's of Dad's hoarding to sort through. So if you love a treasure trove you will love spending time here with my dog Penny and me.

I've travelled extensively and have only recently returned 'home' after years living abroad including in UK, Middle East and SE Asia. I do miss international living so this is an opportunity to share stories, compare notes, help each other extend our respective travel bucket lists.

I am however equally grateful to be back close to family. You will therefore see a lot of my brother, nephews and Mum. If you need some Mum-love...mine has plenty to share!

I know exactly what it's like to travel and make the most of life. But I also appreciate how nice it is to unpack your bag, have a home cooked meal and binge watch a TV series. I want you to experience the best of both of those in my home: embrace the travel but have some respite from the road.

If you're up for being active, I will find a project that is suitable to your interest and skills:
    - If you're a skilled gardener or just enjoy working with plants and soil, there are acres of vegetable gardens, flower gardens, lawns and orchards to resurrect.
    - If you love organising, upcycling and recycling, I have plenty of sheds, boxes and piles of all sorts of treasure (ranging from disassembled tennis courts to tools owned by my grandfather) to sort through.
    - If you are skilled at DIY there are walls to paint, garden benches to fix, glass houses to repair, watering systems to install, ice baths to be created.
    - If you have more advanced building skills there are sheds to repair and fences to be fixed.
    - If you have interior design skills, I'd love for you to help me curate my collection of beautiful rugs, trinkets, homewares and art that I have accumulated from living abroad.

It's a great opportunity to apply your existing skills or get your hands dirty learning new ones in an active and outdoor environment. I will be working with you most of the time and we will always be accompanied by Penny, the resident Queen Poodle X.

There will be ample time for chilling out in the cosy house, taking walks around the peaceful back paddock where there are kangaroos galore and resident wombats and echidnas, enjoy picnics or take longer bush walks in nearby nature reserves. We have no ambient light here so the star gazing is incredible.

I have a cosy four bedroom house that we will share. You need to be okay with Penny the dog ruling this house. This includes her sitting up on the coach with you.

You will have your own bedroom and share the kitchen and living area with me. Subject to timing and other guests, the bedroom will be either:
    - large bedroom, Queen size bed and ensuite, or
    - large bedroom with twin beds that can be made into a Queen size bed, sharing the bathroom with me.

If you're living the van life and prefer to sleep in the van there is plenty of room to park. You're welcome to use the house facilities.

    Breakfast included for all days.

Lunch and dinner provided for the days you're working. If we're sharing a meal it will be vegetarian.

For your own dinners (non-working days) you're welcome to cook your own meat. A BBQ is available.

Washing machine is available for you to use as you need. We are on tank water and solar so I am prudent with water use and use the dishwasher and clothes washer during the day.

If you're staying for more than a week, I'd appreciate you changing your bed sheets (supplied), cleaning the ensuite and vacuuming the bedroom floor.

Whilst not remote, it is a lot more convenient for both of us if you have your own transport. I do travel into town most days and open to a conversation if you don't have transport. There is no public transport.

    No smokers please.

I only have on-demand television channels - no Netflix or commercial channels.

Canberra city is about 20 minutes away. You can google all the main attractions but also happy to share some hidden gems. It's one of the most underrated capital cities in the world.

Namadgi National Park is about a 30 minute drive away. World class trekking and wild camping.

Historic towns like Braidwood, Captains Flat and Bungendore are half day visits away.

Perisher Valley (ski fields in winter and amazing hiking in summer) is a 2 hour drive.

Batemans Bay (beach) is a 1.5 hour drive.

Sydney is a 3 hour drive.

Again, you need to be okay with Penny being around and living in the house. She is the Queen of the household!!
