Description
Our organisation operates a huge wildlife reserve (300,000 acres) in southern Namibia, its actually an umbrella reserve that brings smaller reserves, farms and other properties together to form one massive reserve. We are located in southern Namibia and host Succulent and Nama Karoo biomes as well as desert biome, we have mountain ranges, sandy and gravel plains and 90km of Orange River frontage as our southern border. Leopard, brown hyena, Angolan giraffe, oryx, kudu, caracal, honey badger, aardvark, mountain zebra, eland and many more reside here.
We are working to ecologically restore almost 2 million acres, bring back the mega-fauna that has become locally extinct, increase wildlife populations, develop livelihood opportunities for indigenous communities, community outreach, develop monitoring and research programs, build/develop management infrastructure, grow tourism etc. Its incredibly exciting what we have started here that has the potential to be one of the biggest conservation stories in Africa and change the fortunes of the indigenous Nama communities.
Red lives at HQ and manages all the operations on the ground and he has a small team of wonderful workers from the local Nama people and his dog Hushpuppy. Red is from the UK but has been working in conservation in Kenya, Tanzania and Namibia for the past 10 years.
We have 3 locally paid staff at HQ, Sienna and Gerald are farm hands who run the garden and maintain water points and fences throughout our section of the reserve. Angelina is our wonderful housekeeper who cleans the cottages and looks after us so well.Types d'aide et opportunités d'apprendre

Our staff here are from the Nama indigenous people who are extremely friendly and love interacting with anyone who comes to stay, you'll be able to learn all about their culture, including their click language, from them. You'll also have the opportunity to learn a lot about yourself and a lot about the different fortunes and pathways the different cultures around the world end up on.
You can also benefit from a culture exchange between yourself and the Natural World, the wilderness here is so vast that deep connections our made with our ancestral past and here you gain a deep perspective on what is important in life. You will learn all about conservation management and ecology and your will be empowered to develop your own projects.Aide
We are looking for proactive, vibrant folk who are able to work independently and problem solve, I might not always be on site so people who are able to crack on with jobs without lots of guidance is a big bonus.
We are mainly looking for help around HQ and base camp, and some assistance on maintenance jobs around the reserve:
• Vehicle track building
• Mountain bike track building
• Construction/decorating
• Helping our reserve workers with everyday reserve management jobs (checking water points, fences repair/removal, repairing tracks etc)
• Permaculture/Veggie garden
• Managing the tree nursery
• Home cooking
• Someone who knows how to build a natural pool
• Mechanics
• Creating art work with natural materials
• For experienced climbers, scouting and setting up lines
If people have previous experience in the following:
• Community engagement
• Funding proposal writing
• Project reporting
• Media/Marketing/Photography/Newsletters
then we can explore the possibility of you assisting the team in one of these areas.
And there is limitless hiking for you today and well as camping out around the fire. Being able to drive a 4x4 on tracks is a big bonus.
Lastly, if you wanna come and just get stuck into a projects but mainly just absorb the wilderness and chill pretty hard then that's cool also. Its the community and vibes that matter most here and so whatever makes you most happy you can get stuck into.Langues parlées

The nearest village is Warmbad and nearest town where you would do food shopping is Karasburg about 1.5hrs away, for food shopping you can jump in one our our cars when we do a town run. Depending on experience on driving 4x4 on gravel roads workawayers may be able to drive themselves.
You've welcome to head off on safari around southern Namibia or the whole of Namibia whenever you want although we can't provide vehicles for this. For more local downtime, the local towns and villages haven't got anything in the way of attractions, here it is mainly about connecting deeply with the vast wilderness.Informations complémentaires
