Description
We're looking for enthusiastic, helpful hands to join us on our ranch, which is nestled in the mountains and surrounded by beautiful national forest land. We are a thriving intentional community that started in the early 90’s. Residents moved from the city to create a country oasis where friendship, fun, and delicious organic food is central. Our community has members ranging in age from 18 to mid 70's. Workawayers of all ages and nationalities are welcome.
We have been on this property since 2001, and have been hosting Workawayers since 2014. Since then, we have welcomed over 170 visitors to our home. Our ranch is located in rural Siskiyou County on 20 acres of land. Because our property abuts Klamath National Forest, wildlife is prolific from birds to beavers, fox, deer and more.
There are two houses on the property. There are also on-site accommodations for Workawayers which include: an RV, small cabin, shared bedroom and tents.
Crops include:
Spring & Fall Garden: greens, radishes, asparagus, beets, carrots, lettuce, sorrel, parsley and more.
Summer Garden: tomatoes, peppers, corn, squash, cucumbers, beans, garlic, shallots, and more.
Grape vines: 6 varieties
Fruit Orchard: Apple, Pear, Montmorency and Sweet Cherry, Peach, Fig and Plum.
Wild crops: watercress, blackberry, mint, mushrooms, lemon balm, chamomile and many other herbs.
Farm animals include: Chickens, guinea fowl, hogs, goats, working ranch dogs. We also have bees.
We appreciate when people come here with an open mind ready to experience a different lifestyle than what you have previously been exposed to. We like to think of this program as an immersive experience for you not only to grasp the nuts and bolts of organic farming, but also living pleasurably in a group.
We mostly do tasks together, where you will learn alongside one or more residents of our community. You may be caring for animals, weeding, pruning, tilling fields, planting and harvesting. Depending on the season you will also assist with different techniques of food preservation including canning, pickling and dehydrating. Our growing season starts in February and goes into October for outside gardening, and through the winter for greenhouse-grown produce. We are always doing something, whether it be in the garden or in other aspects of the property. Other projects happening right now are: splitting and stacking wood, taking care of the animals, including pigs, goats and chickens, general maintenance and upgrading of existing structures, brushing for wildfire prevention, composting toilet maintenance and much more. On your personal time (when the weather is warm), you may enjoy our refreshing swimming hole, play on our bocce ball court, grass tennis and volleyball court, outdoor basketball hoop, beautiful view from our side decks, creek walking or exercise trails.
If English is not your first language that's okay. There are many ways to get the point across. We are omnivores with an emphasis on garden vegetables, particularly in the summer months. If you adhere to a strict vegan philosophy, our ranch may not be a match for you.
*NOTE ON COVID-19: We recently opened our Workaway program back up after being closed for two years due to the pandemic. In order to reopen, we have certain restrictions for the safety of our community, which include but is not limited to the following:
-Fully vaccinated and boostered upon time of arrival
-Minimum stay of six weeks
In addition:
We cannot accommodate pets.
No drugs/illegal substances on the property.
Please disclose health and medical information prior to arrival.
If all of this sounds good to you please contact us and we can set up a correspondence. We look forward to meeting you!Types d'aide et opportunités d'apprendre

Autres infos...
Fun activities to do during rest time can include taking walks or a hike, seasonal mushroom hunting, playing cards and board games, sometimes we have Karaoke night, watching the game on TV, playing bocce ball, playing volley ball, swimming in our year round creek (though it's very cold in the fall/winter!) or reading a book from our small library (fiction and non-fiction and many how to books)
We don’t have many rules but do have a few:
No drugs on the property.
Disclose health and medical information prior to arrival.
We raise and catch our own meat and fish and take pleasure in consuming it together.
Though our diet has many plants, we incorporate animal products into our daily meals. If you adhere to a strict vegan or vegetarian philosophy, we are not a good option.
We prefer a 6 week minimum length of stay.Informations complémentaires
