Description
We are my German wife, a Thai chef, two gardeners/cleaning and I (Swiss Italian). This is the team.
On top of that we have our two cats Lilly and Lucy, the two dogs Pino and Jessy AND our 3 horses Dam (black), Dao (star) and Deng (red).
The project is about offering horses activities on our island. Horses arrived end May on the island and we are working in getting them accustomed to their new life far away from the daily hard work they had to do until now. It’s about taking care of the horses, teaching local kids how to ride, finding and establishing trails through the forests. A life of walking in line with heavy items to transport has left traces and they are only slowly getting accustomed to their new freedom on our 14’000 square meter paddock.
The horses are originating from the Himalayan mountain horses. Very strong creatures. They come from northern Thailand where they used to do hard work carrying 100 kg of agricultural items though the mountains several times per day. Because of their size (wither 1.25 to 1.3 meters) some call them pony. If you get to see and work with them you will realize what power and strength this very nature close creatures are. No need for horse shoes (which they never had).Types d'aide et opportunités d'apprendre

We want our project also to integrate with the local community. Horses are meanwhile accustomed enough that we can start looking at offering the local children a horse riding oportunity, Your job will also be to supervise this.
The island is very small. About 700 local people live here. Everybody knows everybody. All you need to do is be yourself. It is a 100% tourist location. So all locals/Thai are targeted towards this business. Living on Koh Mak means living with everybody together. The island is one big family. No way you can avoid being part of it.
We are a very small business. Just my wife and myself, along with a cook and two gardeners. You will live on our land. Your room is 70 meters away from our restaurant where we will often eat together or you will cook yourself in our kitchen or the cook will have food done for you.Aide
Work includes ALL activities required twith horses: organizing the collection of gras (we will have local worker for the heavy type of work). Feeding them. Brushing them. Cleaning the hooves. Picking up the manure. Daily excercise (ground work). Riding.
Experience with horses (if you are a couple at least one of the two) is required. Please do not apply if you do not have such experience. We also have a weight limit of 80 kg, which is why you should not apply if you exceed this weight.
Bring your experience with horses. Consider we use local horses (actally ponys). Here called Thai mountain horses. In reality from the breed "hymmalian mountain horse"Langues parlées

You have a 4 x 4 meter private room with your own shower/toilet. Area outside to sit. Near the horses
We are a very small team. There is no "procedure" for food. It will be "as it comes":
* our cook cooks for everybody
* our cook cooks for you
* you cook yourself in the restaurant kitchen
* we pay for food delivery
Since we are not a big company with 100 employees we can just handle food (and all other activities) on an ad-hoc basis as it happens
Of course you can use the pool in our small resortAutres infos...
We will pay you one round trip boat to mainland once per month, if you feel that you need to see more folks :-). The island has all you need to be entertained. It is a tourist location, so plenty of actvities are available for your time off. Consider that May to October is rain season. The island is pretty much deserted. Only few tourists and most restarants closed.

I reeally really enjoyed my time in Koh Mak and cannot reccomend it more! The work with the ponies was good, I felt really really welcome on the Island but also by Norbert and Silvia who took us Workawayers out to eat, introduced us to people on the Island etc.. It really is like a big family on Koh Mak, I would love to go back there in… read more
We appreciated a lot her skills and experience with horses. It's not every day that you meet somebody that actually learned the task of horse care. Absolutely easy going and didn't need lots of teaching on the help. She can naturally do it on her own.
If you need a horse expert take Samira.
