Description
I am a 45 years old former freelance journalist who became a programmer and then quit everything and became a professional rental host :) I love training and big healthy eating. I have 2 big rhodesian ridgeback dogs. Grew up in Sweden, France, Switzerland, New Mexico and worked as a sailor when I was young and seen a lot of southeast Asia from a boat. Covered midwest and western USA by car. Generous, not a fan of bullshit and try to live by that myself. I built the host business from scratch and manage it together with my adult children Frank and Leo who are also avid travellers. In summer I enjoy fishing and driving my old Chevy v8 in the mountains. In winter I spend a lot of time in the gym (to "survive" :) Like spirituality and eastern philosophy, Jung stuff like that, love and respect and all of those nice words. Like music a lot. Play in bars sometimes. Anything from up tempo reggae to house and techno. Well that's what I can think of right now :)

I have lived in many countries and speak 5 languages. I will help you to find a way into Swedish culture. We will be naighbours :) Both me and my son Frank work at one of the best pubs in northern Scandinavia, in Luleå (35 beers on tap). We will gladly take you to work and introduce you people at the pub. There is a shared 2002 Renault Megane you can borrow if you want to explore in the area. In summer you can go with us when we drive to the mountains to fish for salmon and trout. If you like pike and bass-fishing you can do that from the garden. If you want to get in contact with sami culture that is possible inland. Luleå has a pretty well visited house of arts where national and international acts perform. In summer the sun does not set and hang out all night. Winter feel the arctic chill and crisp days.

Hello! We are a family-run hosting business in Arctic Sweden: Luleå, by the Northern Baltic Sea, 150 km south of arctic circle.
OPENING FROM end AUG / beginning SEPT
My current workawayers have to go home early for family reasons so the opening is from 26th AUG, but as it is short notice you can come as early as you can after that date.
LENGTH OF STAY: 1 month + additional time available if it all works out.
In September I will be around and show you everythign. In October I will leave for work abroad, so I am looking for people who are interested in staying longer, 4 months, 6 months, even up to a year if it all works out? Let me know. Longer time frame is good.
PERFECT MATCH?
As you only work a few hours per day, this opening is perfect if you: study, work remote, have flexible hours, would like to explore arctic life and just have a simple job clos to nature, would like to live a comfortable lfie and pursue interests such as sports, art, music --- Or just live a life where you don't work so much :). As the hours of work are mainly daytime (see description below) you also have the possibility to look for other jobs such as working in restaurant/bar/hotel evning, I have connections and can introduce you.
LOOKING FOR A COUPLE
Coming here to work with a partner has proven to be a good concept. 1) you always have company 2) caring for the dogs can sometimes be a 2-man job 3) One person can work in the house business, the other hold a regular job/study - or both help out with houses, live a simple life with plenty of free time.
YOUR OWN HOUSE
During Sept you will have a 25 m2 house with private sauna, tiled bathroom, induction stove, floor heating. Compact but nice!
When I leave in October you will move into my 63 m2 house with lake view and open fire (mainly for the dogs, they are big and that is their home). I will of course clear out personal things and the house will be yours for the lenght of the stay. If I come back between work contracts I will have one of the smaller houses for me so you don't have to move.
YOUR OWN CAR
I have an Renault 2002 that you are free to use to get around for work errands and leisure time! It's a manual shift, so you need to know how to drive a manual car.
PERKS
You can borrow kayaks, fishing gear, camping gear from me! Use your free time to discover Arctic Sweden!
THIS IS WHO I AM LOOKING FOR
Reliable, honest, customer-friendly, "eye" for cleaning seeing what needs to be fixed/touched up, good communication skills with guests.
YOUR WORK
Work in the rental house part of the operation: cleaning the rental units and keeping an eye on the messages from guest if they need anything. If you are 2 persons you can load balance the cleaning, but doing it on one person is ok too. Sometimes you will need to go to the store and stock up on coffee, plastic bags etc (stuff for rental business), runt trash to recycling center. There are clearly described cleaning routines. In summer: mow the lawn, in winter: clear snow outside houses (where cars drive a tractor helps me:) Part of your work would also be to take the dogs out 1/day during September (you take them out in morning, me in evening).
DOGS
We live with 2 rhodesian ridgeback 45 kg dogs that are wonderful but knowing how to handle dogs is a good merit. When I leave to work abroad in October you have them full time and live with them.
GUEST USER STORY / INTERACTION
The entire booking, check in and check out process is automated with messages from me. However you will be handling simple questions that the guests send and responding when they let you know that they have arrived. All houses are next to each other so then you just pop over and say hello when they arrive. If it is late in the evening you can do it the next day. ALL HOUSES HAVE SELF CHECK IN, so you don't need to wait around for the guests, just show your face once when they arrive! :)
PAY
I will pay you a fixed salary for the cleaning, as I can only offer a few hours of work every day. Some days there is no work (no chek-outs no work!). Depending on how many guests check out that day, usually there are between 0-3 cabins to clean with a maximum of 5. I have run this business over 10 years and I know on average how many hours of work there is to clean every month (based on real numbers, previous salaries). The fixed salary will be more than counting the hours, just so you always know that you can live and plan your economy!) We have done most of the painting and fixing during summer but if there are extra hours of work with garden or construction/painting/help I will pay you by the hour. You will be paid for all your work, I play fair :)
As you will only be working a few hours per day with the cleaning I will pay you 8000 sek/month as you basic wage and any extra hours for gardenwork/extra simple tasks (paining etc) I will pay you ontop of that by 100 sek/hour. These numbers are after tax (just so you can plan your economy). You will have your own house so you only pay for the food you eat. Since I can only offer a few hours of work every day you can't come here and expect to "get rich" but the surroundings are amazing. You have your own house fully equipped kitchen and a bathroom with a private sauna, you can borrow kayaks, bikes, you have your own car... explore, live enjoy!
OCTOBER and on
When I leave in October you keep helping with the bnb business. i will instruct you in all the may-happen-cases and how ot solve them. You will be able to reach me via WhatsApp for questions that come up, but 95% of the use-cases we will handle in September.
LENGTH OF STAY - from SEPT + 4 months (or more)
If our collaboration works out I am looking for people who would like to stay longer at least Late summer and fall are wonderful here. We saw Nothern Lights last week. Winter is REAL winter. If you ever dreamed of having your own house by a frozen lake, open fire, sauna and dogs in the couch - this is it! :)
WORK - CLEANING A NORMAL DAY
So your job would be: if I am working you help walking the dogs, then you clean the houses between 12:00-15:00. Some days there will be no check outs (day off) and some days there will be a maximum of 5 check outs, usually there is 0-3 houses, I keep the houses very well cleaned so it takes me anywhere from 20-45 mins to clean a house, all depending how long the guest has stayed (and when needed I do some extra like scrubbing down the shower or extra cleaning of windows or oven). The guests take the trash out and wipe the kitchen. So your job would be vacuuming, cleaning bathroom, putting new bed linnen in, starting a washing machine and hanging the sheets to dry, having a quick look at the main waste bins and changing a bag if needed, once a month taking the recycling to the recycling station, going to the store to stock up on things for the houses (coffee, oil etc if needed, once a month or so). I am looking for somebody who is careful about details and also sees the whole picture in the experience for the guests. DO NOTE: Cleaning is the area where guests are most likely to complain and it has to be done in high standards! If the guest is happy with the cleaning we are happy with the cleaning! :)
If you are looking for a "get-away" with a simple job that gives you a lot of free time, a nice place to stay with cool people around you, forest and lake at your doorstep and have access to a car, borrow kayaks and bikes, fish or have time for your art or practice a sport - this is a good option for you! Or if you are studying or working some flexible job remotely, this is a perfect setup. If you are interested I'll just give you all the details in message.

You will have a private super cozy 22 m2 house that has been totally refurnished in the fall of 2020: hard wood floors with heating, new kitchen with induction stove, oven, fridge with freezer compartment, new windows, all walls covered with stylish white birch wood paneling and a tiled bathroom with shower,WC and private sauna. Parking by house, high speed Internet. The cabin is 60 meters from the water.

Autres infos...
Getting to house from airport is easy. Then the ride to the house from town is only 15 mins. Busses to house daily about 1/h.
In spring/summer/fall you can enjoy fishing (no fishing license needed), hiking and just the luxury of having nature right around the corner but still be able to hop on a bus to town. Since many international companies have established in Luleå there is today a good selection of restaurants, pubs, coffee-shops and cocktail bars. The local pub The Bishops Arms has a micro brewery. If you wish to see more of the area I can recommend nice day trips to waterfalls, fishing spots, beautiful hikes and many more things to discover. Within a 150 km radius you can reach some of Northern Europe's best trout and salmon rivers! In summer it never really gets dark. As Luleå is 100 km south of the arctic circle you can't see the disc of the sun at night, but it's light like early morning. Light sensitive when you sleep? Bring a face mask! In summer Luleå really comes to life and people from all over Scandinavia (and the world) come to get some long-longed-for sunshine. Luleå also has a beautiful archipelago with islands scattered in the Luleå river delta. In summer small tour boats operate the routes to the islands, some are inhabited with restaurants and beaches, while others are protected natural reserves with a rich bird life. Take the boat in the morning come back in the afternoon!
In winter you also have plenty fo things to do. Local companies offer dog sledding, snow mobile tours etc. You can also do many activities right from the house. Borrow skis from me and go explore the area on your own. Only 300 m from house you will also find prepared competition ski tracks (Ormberget). For alpine skiing Luleå offers shorter slopes. If you want to try alpine skiing this is a great opportunity to learn, but if you are expecting long slopes you had better go to the alps. Sweden is flat and our "mountains" are more like hills by international standards. During winter the town of Luleå prepares a 4 km "ice road" in town. Borrow skates or a kick sled and you can even reach some of the closest islands! Down on the ice the town of Luleå put out grill spots with free fire wood. Bring a hot dog and cook your own lunch on the ice! In winter days are short. Sun goes up at 08:30 am and down at 2:00 pm. Temperatures range from -5 C° to -25 C°.

Hello I have a 500/500 wifi connection with tp-cabled access points in all houses setup with mesh/grid. This is an eldorado of wifi. Go outside, as long as you are around the houses you will have kick ass internet. As long as chores are done properly I only encourage you to do the most of your spare time.

Espace pour garer des vans
I have spots on the property that provide privacy and also have electricity. As long as you don keep it tidy around there I am happy.

I have 2 dogs myself. You house is small so a big dog would be difficult. Also I can not guarantee that it will work. If you have a dog, our dogs must get along. It usually works just making sure to note it here! :)
