    Description

We are a small family living in the friendly town of Kingscourt, Co. Cavan, Ireland. We are Laura and David, our baby daughter Bláithín, who is four months old, and our dog Fiadh.

We live in a recently renovated cottage with a large garden, within walking distance of the town. I am currently on maternity leave and spend most of my days at home with Bláithín. David works during the week, so I would really enjoy having some company and an extra pair of hands around the house and garden, while also welcoming someone new into our home and giving them the opportunity to experience everyday life in Ireland.

Life here is fairly relaxed and revolves around Bláithín at the moment! We would love to welcome a solo traveller who is comfortable around babies and dogs and would enjoy becoming part of our household for a while.

We would love our Workawayer to feel like part of the household while they are staying with us and to experience everyday life in an Irish family and a small Irish town. We are happy to share meals, have a cup of tea and a chat, go for walks together and include you in family activities and outings when you would like to join us.

Living in Kingscourt gives you the opportunity to experience a small Irish town, while still having access to larger towns and cities. We would be very happy to share our knowledge of the local area, recommend places to visit and help you work out transport and plans for your days off. If there are local events, walks or activities happening during your stay, we would be happy to help you find out about them and get involved.

We are also genuinely interested in meeting people from other countries and learning about their culture, language, food and way of life. We would love to hear about where you come from and, if you enjoy cooking, you are very welcome to introduce us to some of your favourite dishes. Likewise, we are happy to share Irish food and traditions with you.

Most of all, we see hosting as an opportunity for good company and cultural exchange in both directions. With Laura currently on maternity leave with Bláithín, it would be lovely to have another adult around to chat to and share parts of the day with, while giving someone the chance to experience normal family life in Ireland.

The help we are looking for is quite varied and informal – some light housework, taking Fiadh for walks, helping me tackle some tasks in the garden, and spending time with me and Bláithín. Any help involving Bláithín would always be alongside me – we are not looking for someone to have sole responsibility for her or to act as a nanny.

Our garden is something I would particularly love to spend more time working on. There is plenty of space and lots of little projects I would like to tackle, but getting much gardening done with a four-month-old attached to me can be challenging! You certainly don't need to be an experienced gardener – enthusiasm and a willingness to get stuck in are more important.

You will have your own private single bedroom in our home, so this placement is best suited to a solo traveller. The room is comfortable, clean and provides you with your own space and privacy during your stay. You will share the main bathroom and the rest of the house with us.

Our home is a recently renovated cottage with a large garden, located in the town of Kingscourt. We are within 2 minutes of the town.

We will provide food throughout your stay and you are very welcome to eat with us. We are also happy for you to use the kitchen and cook for yourself whenever you prefer. If you enjoy cooking, we'd love to try dishes from your home country too, although there is absolutely no expectation that you cook for us.

We want you to feel comfortable and at home while staying with us. You'll be welcome to use the shared living areas and garden, while having your own bedroom to retreat to whenever you would like some quiet time.

Because we have a young baby, our days aren't always perfectly predictable, so someone easy-going and comfortable with normal family life would probably enjoy staying with us most. Fiadh is also very much part of the household. She is a German Shepherd, so she is a big dog, but she is very friendly and loves company and going for walks. You should therefore be comfortable living with and being around a large dog.
