  Description

  (Updated!) We are on Southern Vancouver Island, in the Cowichan Valley, on the traditional territory of the Quw'utsun (Cowichan) Nations. Our off grid homestead is 15min drive to Shawnigan Lake and a 25 min drive to the ocean in Mill Bay. We manage 12 acres of forest, and are building our permaculture gardens. We aim to preserve the natural peat bog habitat and work on forest management/restoration. We are here to share our passion and respect for this beautiful land, knowledge off grid systems, and art processes (for those inclined) in exchange for the physically demanding help associated with various building and land projects. We are artists, makers, builders, gardeners, and educators. We have experience hosting international students and artists and love to learn about new cultures. I am a full time teacher and my husband runs the homestead. The renovations for our ‘work away’ trailer are nearly complete and we are seeking a couple who can help us with the roof and deck and share in some cooking/meal prep. The interior of the private, forest edged trailer is fully furnished, clean, and freshly painted. It is set up and ready to live in while the exterior work is being done. A couple with a vehicle is best suited as we are remote (not near a bus route).

  Must be willing to balance your digital life with outside physical work. Satellite internet access included.

  Your pet must be fully trained and stay close to home as there are wolf packs and other animals nearby. Also must be friendly to a small fluffy dog who is nervous around big dogs.
