Description
Hi, we are Claudia and Bart. Our farm is in the early days of development as we bought it in early 2022. Its situated in the Natural Park about 10 min from Odemira, it is very peaceful & beautiful & a great area to go for long walks in nature.
There is already a decent size garden with a lot of mature fruit trees, but it is a big land and we are now step by step working on different projects to work towards our long term vision for the land.
Our long term vision for the land is something along the lines of an organic (permaculture) farm & artist retreat where people can come and stay short & long term to practice their art discipline without many distractions and with beautiful nature around. We both enjoy circus arts and practice things like juggling, slack lining, hula hooping & more. Eventually we also want to be able to host and teach an occasional workshop, think of circus related workshops but also yoga, meditation & tai chi.
Bart has done a permaculture course and we aim to incorporate permaculture principles into our land development.
Some of the work you can expect to do on the farm:
- cleaning the forest which is quite overgrown, pulling vines from trees, collecting firewood, pruning trees, etc
- water management (digging swales, drains)
- constructing terraces & paths
- building stone retention walls
- weeding the (vegetable) garden
- checking for ripe fruits & vegetables & collecting them
- help preparing lunch & dinner
A lot of the work outside is quite physical. You will work with a lot of different hand tools and you most likely will get a few blisters along the way. You need to be OK with these things.
The minimum stay for a volunteer is 4 weeks, longer stays are possible.
WE HAVE 1 VOLUNTEER SPACE LEFT AT THE MOMENT STARTING FROM THE 15TH OF APRIL.
We have 3 cats.
If you think you might want to volunteer with us please read the rest of our profile before sending a request!

If you have some (specific) knowledge or some experience in gardening/ permaculture or anything else that might be useful on a farm let us know beforehand, it isnt a requirement though. On occasion we might need some help in the kitchen to prepare a meal.
You need to have a good level of English.
We are looking for volunteers that want to stay 4 weeks or longer. Please state in your message how long you would like to stay and we can see what is possible. If for some reason the cooperation does not work well for either party they should voice that concern asap so we can see if it can be improved, if not we will go our separate ways without hard feelings.
We are looking for volunteers who are responsible, independent and don't mind physical work. We expect 5 hrs of work a day, 5 days a week (mon-fri), a couple of hours in the morning and a couple of hours after the lunch break.Langues
