  • Description

The adventure begins in Panama on Isla de Muertos... the name surprises but there's nothing sinister to it. The island has a long history and archeological artefacts remain. One story goes that, the shape of the island - long and narrow with peaks and dips - looks like a recumbent figure.

There's plenty of life in this slice of tropical paradise that is completely offgrid - no roads, 100% solar powered with pure well water to drink. What I love about this project, is the big part wild animals have in it. On a daily basis you will see monkeys, iguanas, all types of birds, butterflies, spiders and snakes... not for the faint hearted!

We also enjoy a jungle island living with beaches, sunsets, kayaks, fishing, hiking, birding and exceptional sights, smells and sounds to fill your senses. Keep in mind that the island is in a quiet bay and not a spot for surfing - no waves, or snorkling - low visibility.

We are actively recruiting volunteers for August-September, we have found that 2-3 volunteers at a time works well, on occasion we have hosted couples. Our volunteers generally stay for about 4 weeks and so places are very limited.
Priority given to applicants who write a well thought out letter that covers background, education, interests and relevant experience. French or Spanish fluency is appreciated. Please put the month you will be available to volunteer in Panama into your subject heading.
Specific experience with painting or carpentry is a definite plus.
Students of biology - agriculture - permaculture can expect to get much hand on experience.
All can expect to help with weeding, cleaning and cooking meals.
Let us know if you know how to fish!
Remember that farming work is hard physical work. It will involve digging, cutting, clearing wood and heavy plants, making compost, moving stones.
Consider there are many bugs on this island... mosquitoes, spiders, and many other large, flying insects that are as impressive as they are harmless... if you panic at the sight of bugs, it's likely this will pass very quickly but thought it best to mention.

At home we speak French or Spanish and we request that volunteers have another language other than English.
We would love to tell you all about this project, get you involved in hands on work, share our experience of living an alternative lifestyle and we are always keen to learn new skills from others.

  • Autres infos...

    Autres infos...

We are one short hour away from David, close to the Costa RIca border, yet the island sits in the largely uninhabited mangroves, in a natural environment. No people, no cars, no noise. Local residents are howler monkeys, iguanas, anteaters, frogs, spiders, snakes... it's full on and will keep you pretty busy.
You can hike across the island or go kayak fishing. The region of Chiriqui is also home to the highland towns of Boquete, and Volcan where the dormant Baru volcano provides most of the country's produce. A three hour bus ride across the mountain will take you to Bocas del Toro, the Caribbean backpacker destination.
