    Description

    Hello All,

Are you looking for an opportunity to make an impact by directly supporting the setting up of an organic farm in Kenya and later training community members and journeying with them to replicate - using the resources they already have? Please consider our place in Machakos, Kenya.

My name is Lydia(h), founder and director of the place - registered in Kenya in May 2025.

Our first Entreprise is piloting tree planting, bee keeping, and poultry production. This piloting picked momentum in 2024 with planting of 300 orange trees. At this stage, majority of the operations are youth driven and the garden is maximizing use of simple, affordable and sustainable technologies that can be adopted by new and existing farmers hereafter. This means additional handson/experienced resources management guidance and assistance to the youthful folks is very hardy for making the best from available resources and in record time. The goal is to train youth and willing existing farmers from Kenya for first of, enterprising and secondly, employability in Africa and the global space. Mentored youth and farmers are expected to replicate the same agribusiness attitudes, work and entrepreneurial ethics in their own gardens or places of employment.

The founding of the place in 2022 was motivated by a deep desire to close food security and employment gap following a draught that ravaged Machakos with failing rains over 2021 and 2022. The prolonged dry season led to wild animals leaving their habitat to enter human settlements in search of food and water. This caused world life-human conflict that was detrimental to both where animals were killed for game meat and animals attacked crops, livestock and people. Majority of the persons that hunted the wild animals were youthful and energetic neighborhood farmers who sought cheap meat. It goes without saying that one would have enough time to chase after cheap meat either because they were unemployed or under employed irregardless of whether the employment meant being busy in their farms or the traditional employment on other people's properties. Those mostly affected by the wild animals were farmers with irrigated crops, sheep, goat and calves and unfortunately one neighborhood farmer lost a child to a hyena. During the registration in May 2025, the Enterprise had observed an alarming concern among farmers within Kenya who expressed concerns on finding reliable, committed farm workers. Having previously attested to this concern, we determined to embrace hiring and training additional employable farmer youth for not only youth’s employability and entrepreneurship mentoring, but also helping solve the concern with other farmers.

The garden is located in the country side, off Mombasa Road, about 60 kilometers from the city of Nairobi, and 45kilometres from Jomo Kenyatta international airport. Some key attractions accessible by bus include Machakos People's Park for leisure, Kyamwilu "Gravity Hill" for a unique natural phenomenon, Iveti Forest for hiking, and the Maanzoni Sanctuary for wildlife viewing.

There's free access to the internet, provided one has a local sim card that has internet data on it. Although we are yet to install a garden-owned internet service, current staff normally use their private sim cards to access internet.

    Echange culturel et opportunités d'apprendre

Volunteers will connect with the Team in the morning and in the evening. We begin the day together on a simple breakfast at the Garden, pray together, and everyone moves on their way and reconnect again in the evening for the same. The 3 staff currently on site come from different cultures across Kenya, thereby offerring an opportunity to exchange cultural experiences from across backgrounds, and learning from each other. We also use this window to teach each other language, reading and life skills. We welcome volunteers to fit in, and as well enrich the fellowship as we connect with each other. Only one on our staff has travelled outside Kenya, meaning, you will have a great opportunity to share how successful, productive, impactful and easily replicable and sustainable gardening that uses simple technology remaining 97+% organic can be achieved. Before we open up the garden for demonstration to the community for them to replicate, we are trying to create systems from scratch, meaning that you are very wellcome to join us in this impact creation journey.

Sunday is our day off, and we use it for worship, personal rest, and if one likes, visiting the nearby recreation parks and sceneries.

Our location is very well connected to boda boda (motorcycle)s. We also have a 2kilometre walk distance to the main bus stage for catching matatus to Machakos town, Nairobi and other nearby towns. We have connections to uber and regular regular taxis but both are quite pricy.

Given the age fo the garden (set up stage), we find ourselves spending alot of time on the farm, over 90% of the workers time. We would like you to know that we are looking for someone who's not afraid of pushing alittle harder (with team or alone) to make things happen. S/one who's open to sharing ideas boldly and participating in creating an impact path for others in the community to learn from in the near future, for we believe that together with like minided persons, we can end years of cyclical hunger from the Machakos area.

We are driven by the fact that we understand that gardening requires heavy take off, but we do expect things to ease up in the next couple of years.

Digital nomads are highly welcome to join us as long as they are willing to invest a minimum of 5 hours of their day on the garden activities; more hours will be welcome too-:). We also welcome families (maximum 2 persons at ago) - as we are still setting up and the living situation is not the most comfortable for little vacationing infants. The situation is best suited for active/retired engineers, and gardening/animal care lovers who believe in climate smart farming that can be replicated in the community, community development minds, impact driven souls ready to leave foot prints as trail brazers for future users in this community and from the global space. Given we are at set up stage, we note that there's alot of heavy manual work, but hopefully we'll soon implement simpler technologies, and therefore your ideas and creativity will be highly welcome and beneficial.
