**We will be working on cob and plaster, some earthbag building to finish the bathroom, plumbing, electrical (including solar setup) and building the interior of the kitchen and bathroom.** Hello! We are currently living on our land near Taos, New Mexico and working to complete an earthbag house that we designed. We moved here from the bay area of California, specifically San Francisco and Oakland and have lived in northern New Mexico since September 2019. Our home is about 20 miles north of the town of Taos in the shadows of the beautiful Sangre de Cristo Mountains. The house, when completed will be three connected earthbag rooms with an attached bathroom. We have built and closed in the entire house and looking for help with plaster, stone floors, plumbing, solar set up etc. We are also working to construct a greenhouse to grow food in as well as several small building projects on the land.

We are excited to host people in this beautiful part of the world that we now call home and to pass on what we have learned about building and living sustainably. We have many goals for our property including growing fruit and vegetables, keeping bees for honey, starting a family and hosting earthbag and permaculture workshops to pass on the knowledge we have accumulated in the process.
Taos and the surrounding area has plenty to offer as far as hiking, fishing, swimming, rafting, sightseeing and skiing in the winter. There are several hot springs in the local area along the river just ask us where! The Rio Grande is close by as well as many stunning hiking trails including Wheeler Peak, Goose Lake Trail and Red River Nature Trail. There are several gorgeous hot springs along the river that we like to go to to take a break from the build. We live about 1.5 hours or approximately 85 miles from Santa Fe. The free RTD blue bus line can be taken from Santa Fe to Taos and back daily as well as a number of other towns in the surrounding area.

We have no minimum requirement to your length of stay, all help is welcome. One day or a week! It tends to get hot in the summer months towards the middle of the day so we will plan to work from about 9am-12pm then break for lunch and rest and reconvene to work for another couple of hours in the afternoon before breaking for wash up and dinner. We will mostly be working on digging dirt for the house, plastering the bags etc. The help will include digging, sifting and some heavy lifting as well as building frames for windows and doors. Little or no experience with earthbag building is required but absolutely appreciated. We are looking for people with earth plaster/ cob experience or at least a willingness to learn and get your hands dirty. Thanks!

    Hébergement

We are very much off grid and so encourage people who are open to this type of experience and are used to being self sufficient. We have a nice size canvas tent to offer for accommodation currently which has a full size bed. There is also plenty of space to camp or park with your own gear if you choose. We love to cook and will provide dinner every evening as well as plenty of fresh drinking water daily. We can provide some basic ingredients for breakfast and lunch to cook over the fire or on our coleman propane stove top. We have built a private outdoor shower for bathing privately but no running water and an outhouse for use by all. We can provide clean towels but encourage workawayers to bring their own. We bring water in from town and don't have endless amounts so encourage workawayers who are driving to bring extra drinking and bathing water. Our shower water is funneled away to water plants on the property and so we require that you bring biodegradable soaps only. Our property is about five miles off the highway on a very bumpy road so a 4wd or at least high clearance vehicle is required. We can pick you up from Taos if needed. **The road to the property requires a 4wd or at least a slightly lifted vehicle to navigate. Small sedans will not be able to make the drive**
