Description
The Farm is a small scale diversified farm with a focus on regenerative agricultural systems, started in 2017. We grow vegetables organically, raise chickens for meat and eggs on pasture, and forest raised pigs. Our processes aim to mimic nature and build each other as far as possible. We have 4 self catering cottages that are booked most weekends.
We are looking for volunteers to assist on the farm and in the guesthouse. Jobs include: moving animals, feeding animals, planting, harvesting, bed preparation, washing and packing vegetables for market, garden work (trimming, pruning, tidying), building jobs, and may extend into helping in the guesthouse if required.
Experience with organically grown vegetables on a market scale would be a winner! As would interest in food/cooking.
We have a dedicated team of full time staff members. You may be required to work with us, with our staff, or independently, depending on the job. We try to allow each person to work within their area of strength. We are a young couple, who also maintain part time work off the farm so there may be times where we entrust you to continue with jobs alone. We have a daily work schedule.
Our location is remote, in the foothills of the Drakensberg. We are 30 minutes from the nearest village, shops, restaurants etc., an hour from the nearest town. The setting is best suited to someone/couple who are happy to be far from town and enjoy quiet solitude. We have no cellphone reception but can offer fair use WiFi. We generally keep to ourselves a lot but look forward to sharing our home with like-minded people, alongside three dogs, a cat, our chickens, geese, and pigs!
Accommodation provided in a double bed with en suite bathroom (access by stairs). We will provide basic groceries but try to eat as much as possible from the farm. The more we can grow together, the more variety we will have.Types d'aide et opportunités d'apprendre

Our emphasis is on establishing a self-sufficient small scale regenerative farm. Andre has experience working with solar power systems, Kait works at an inquiry-based farm school. We started and manage a pre-order farmers market style delivery system that may be of interest to volunteers, to meet and learn from other small scale local producers, as well as learning how to manage a farm business. We have self catering cottages on site so volunteers may meet new people, as well as interact with a variety of people. We have a dedicated team of local staff members from which volunteers can also gain experience.
