Description
Hello we are Esperanza and Aristides, Colombian people. We propose one or two weeks stays of an organic farm. The idea is to take advantage of splendid landscapes in the middle of a luxuriant vegetations of mango trees, tangerines, orange groves, cocoa and more. Esperanza stays there all the time in the farm.When you're at the farm, maybe Esperanza needs to go to Bogotá for few days...

The idea is simple: we can accommodate up to 2 people in exchange for what you work according to the needs of the farm (about 5 hours per day).

Information: We accept the beginning of a voluntary mission from Sunday or at the latest Monday evening...

A room to share for 2 people (2 beds), windows with mosquito nets, a bathroom for the room, and a lot of birds in the morning :)

We don't have internet System.

We can offer BREAKFAST and LUNCH in respect of local food. for example fresh fruit juice, egg, corn cake, rice, vegetable etc and for you're night meal and weekends meal we have place for your food in the fridge with access to the kitchen

NO meal on weekends ... But we can talk about...

Once on site or we walk if we move on a motorcycle. Possibility of swimming in a river 10 minutes by motorcycle 35 min walk.
The Nilo town is situated to the Farm at 50min walking o 10 min by motorcycle (Price $5000) by taxi ($10000). The bus from Melgar o Girardot to Nilo ($5000). From Bogota to Melgar o Girardot ($12000-18000 its depend the class of bus)

I spent almost 2 weeks with Esperanza. The finca is a very basic one in the middle of beautiful nature. She has lots of fruit trees like mango, citrus, banana and cacao. Besides that she lives with 3 super cute dogs, about 60 chicken and a Baby cow that she is growing up with the bottle.
For me the experience was very interesting because I had… read more never lived that way before. Esperanza lives alone in that place and pays very very much attention to live with the biggest respect to nature. She does not throw anything, she keeps every bottle, plastic bag, packaging... also she is very careful with the water, she tries to collect the dirty water from the kitchen tu use it for the plants. Electricity is only used for light.
All in all I learned from her during breakfast and lunch a lot about colombian life and people. Nevertheless the work was quite hard: i woke up at 6.30 to feed the animals and to prepare breakfast. After dishwashing my real work time started: collecting mango, carrying them to the road, painting citrus trees. Does not sound so tough but if you imagining doing that at 35*C...
At 13.00 Esperanza prepared lunch where we had good converstations every day. I had to clean up everything afterwards and finished at 14.30. Meals were very healthy as Esperanza sees the biggest risk of gettick sick in alimentation.
During my second week Esperanza left from Sunday to Tuesday and I was completly alone at the finca. During that days I had to cook for myself besides the daily work. On Wednesday of my second week I got sick, so I slept the whole day. As I did not work that day, I did not fulfill the Deal of „i work and she will prepare food in Exchange“. She made a very little portion of pasta that day. As the finca is 1 hour walking to the next town, it was a very uncomfortable situation for me. The day after I left in the morning because I was still sick. She did not try to convince me to stay. She did not even ask me afterwards if I was better or if I arrived safely (i was travelling alone). This point I honestly did not like. I think workaway is an exchange - not only for work but also an intercultural exchange where people should care for each other.
All in all I can recommend to stay of you are looking for a isolated place without internet and any social contacts. Be aware of the fact that you might be alone at that place for some time.

🇨🇴 Tuvimos una experiencia muy chevre en la finca de Esperanza. Quedamos (mi hermano y yo) un poquito menos de 3 semanas y nuestro tiempo allí fue muy tranquilo e interesante. Quedé 2 semanas en la finca de Esperanza y es fue una buenissima experiencia..
El trabajo es duro, y la temperatura muy caliente en la région, perderías 1 o 2 kilos jaja, pero es simplemente una real experiencia en el campo!

I stayed on the finca with Esperanza for just over 3 weeks, and I thoroughly enjoyed every moment there. I helped with harvesting mandarina, naranja, limón and grapefruit, as well as looking after the 40 chickens, their 4 lovely dogs and the calf 'Tesoro'.

Our experience here was incredible ! The farm is very beautiful, Esperanza is nice and interesting.
