    Description

Welcome to our home stay amongst the beautiful Dandenong Ranges. I'm Steph and live with my lovely partner Jamie, the king of the house our cat Ollie and our entertaining hens who love following everyone around. Our newest member of our house is Oscar a tabby kitten who also loves being the star of the show.

We always have a range of different projects on the go around the property. The local kookaburras, rosellas and King parrots will also be watching and supervising any work you do around the place 😆 we love playing music in the backyard as we tackle tasks for the day.

We love going on long walks around our area and would love to show you around too if you would like and point out our local wildlife and native plants. We have also hosted many HelpX guests, family and friends from overseas and have become familiar with the different travel experiences and opportunities across Victoria and Australia and happy to help you plan any trips if you would like including travel destinations and how to get there.

We have had an incredible time getting to know many travellers through other similar platforms and getting to learn a bit of your language, your culture and your life journey. In return we love sharing and helping you experience the Australian culture, food and beautiful nature and wildlife Australia has to offer. We also enjoy practising English with guests who would like that.

Selby is located in the heart of the scenic Yarra Ranges Shire where there are lots of beautiful nature/bush walks, close to national parks and famous tourist attractions. The property is surrounded by cool climate gum trees with a beautiful array of ferns and native shrubs and bushes. There is plentiful wildlife, including laughing kookaburras, wombats, wallabies, lyrebirds, crimson rosellas, eastern whip birds, Australian king-parrots, echidnas, both sulphur crested and large black cockatoos and in the evening, you can enjoy a clear starlit sky. We would love to show and share these experiences with you.

    Tourist attractions in the area:
    - Puffing Billy
    - Grants Picnic Ground
    - 1000 Steps
    - Sassafras and Olinda Villages

    EXPECTATIONS & OFFERING

Enthusiastic, trustworthy English speaking helpers who enjoy a laugh, practical and can work INDEPENDENTLY. There are several varied projects on the go. Most of the help is outside, you need to be physically fit and prepared for manual labour. I look forward to hearing from any skilled and experienced travellers who can help with limited instructions, unsupervised and have a passion for gardening. Garden help include but not limited to: use of a whipper snipper to tidy garden edges; rake leaves; turning compost piles; hand weeding, collect fallen branches and sticks off the ground. Gather fire wood from inside or outside property, cut and stack. Help burn garden waste. Plant new or potted plants, spread mulch on garden beds. Helping around the house and other odd jobs that come up. External house clean including windows. On rainy days, we work indoors cleaning. All tools and materials are provided.

    ENVIRONMENT

Help is outside most of the time with insects, noises, smells & animals. You will get dirty, muddy, it may be hot or cold. Please bring clothing and footwear suitable for a farm. Climate 0 to 40 degrees (All seasons in one day). We try to ensure guests are

    STILL INTERESTED?
We offer 2 options depending on if you want food provided or not. We welcome stays with a minimum of 2 nights up to a week (or longer for the right helpers). We are flexible around how the hours are done. You can do your dedicated hours per day (example. 2 hours per day for 3 days) or bulk them together if you want more days completely free to go and explore (example 6 hours in 1 day and 2 days of no work).

Option 1. 2 hours help per night of stay with no meals provided however there are some snacks in the pantry you can help yourself to.

Option 2. 4 hours of help per night stay which includes all meals. Breakfast and lunch is self serve from items in the fridge and pantry and dinner is a warm cooked meal.
Helpers must have their own travel insurance and working holiday visa.

Our preference is for new guests to arrive on Friday and start work on Saturday when we have the most time to go through everything.

If you would like to stay please include in your initial message to us if you are interested in option 1 or 2 as well as a bit about you and what work you have experience doing.

    RENUMERATION

Depending what option you go for food may or may not be included. If you choose option 2 where food is provided please let us know of any allergies and we can do our best to accommodate but please let us know in advance. I am gluten free so am familiar with challenges around food allergies and intolerances.
You can have access to our laundry if you want to do your washing.

    Hébergement

Family Home in Selby within the beautiful Dandenong Ranges close to Belgrave and Puffing Billy in the outer suburbs of Melbourne.
You would have your own part of the house with 1 bedroom (double bed), bathroom, lounge room and kitchenette (kettle, microwave, fridge, freezer, BBQ with a side gas stovetop). There is 1 movable fan and 1 movable oil heater. We are on the NBN network and have Wi-Fi throughout the house. The Loungeroom comes with a small round extendable table, a couch as well as a TV connected to free to air.
The property is a little over an Acre with two creeks running through, The block is reasonably flat with the gradient sloping towards the creeks. We have a range of native Flora and Fauna on the property which we do everything we can to maintain by adapting native gardens and providing ecosystems for the Fauna to thrive. This native and natural landscape is one of our primary goals for the property.
We are at the foothills of the Dandenong Ranges National Park, Grants picnic ground loop walk (Paddy Track) can be accessed within a 15 minute walk from the property and other stunning nature walks are only a short car or bus ride away.
You will be sharing one side of the house with Steph and Jamie, Steph works part time from her home office. Jamie works full time and is on site majority of the day. The space is separated from our living area with a door so as to maintain your privacy at all times. We have an indoor only cat named Oliver and he spends his days full time basking in the sun in the outdoor cat run.

Our house and property is a no smoking or vaping zone. We ask you to please respect this if you choose to stay.
