We are very lucky to live on a farm in the beautiful Lake District, just on the edge of the National Park in Cumbria; the farm dates back to the early 1700's. Over the years parts of it have been renovated and added to and some parts are looking a little sorry for themselves! On the farm are myself, my mother, my sister and my 10yr old nephew. We love living here and love sharing this special environment with others.
We are on the outskirts of the well known village of Cartmel which is home to a small racecourse, several very good restaurants and it is famous for it's Sticky Toffee Pudding and ancient Priory. You can walk into the village from the farm in just under 20 minutes and there is a local grocery store and several pubs where you can meet friendly locals and visitors from all over the world. The nearest town is Kendal which is about a 20 minute drive away or you can get a bus from the next village along, Grange-over-Sands.
The scenery here is stunning and we have a fantastic view from the farm as we sit high above the Cartmel Valley. The wonderful green pastures are down to the weather which can be sunny and dry, or wet and windy, yet both contribute to the soothing and therapeutic atmosphere of the countryside.
We'd like volunteers to commit to staying with us for at least 3-4 weeks so that we can all get to know each other and sometimes we can offer shorter trips. We are a relaxed yet hard working family; we like to make our volunteers welcome and part of our family :-)

The Lake District is a truly beautiful part of the world and we are well placed for those wishing to experience a traditional English cultural exchange. Being in The Lake District there are many fabulous places to explore!
As we are a household of meat eaters, vegetarian/vegan and flexitarians we welcome all different diets. You will of course need to try the local food, especially the Sticky Toffee Pudding!
Here at the farm we accept volunteers who like to spend time on a farm where they can enjoy the peace and tranquillity of the countryside and be around dogs, horses and sheep - all the things that we find therapeutic and beneficial to mental health and general wellbeing.
If you are interested in coming please let me know which type of work you are looking to help with from the list below:
*Labourer, plumber, electrician, to help with building projects
*Housekeeper (minimum stay 2 months)
*Gardening, landscaping, digging up brambles
*General DIY & decorating
*Mucking out stables and help around horses (no riding)
You will see from our Feedback that we love hosting and we have had volunteers from all over the world come to stay who have thoroughly enjoyed their time with us on the farm in this lovely part of the world. We are more than happy to give travellers a taste of rural English culture and we never ask people to do work that they don't enjoy!

We have 2 touring caravans each suitable for two people sharing or a couple.
We provide basic food for you to cook in the caravan and once a week we try to all get together for a meal. We provide bed linen, towels and use of a washing machine & dryer and it is worth mentioning that being on a working farm it can be very muddy, so sturdy footwear, water proofs and gloves are a must if helping outside! We have unlimited broadband in the cabin office which you are welcome to use - there isn't any internet access in the caravans.

We only invite those who are trustworthy, reliable, willing to get stuck in and positive in everything they do - life is too short to be miserable. Saying that, we are happy to encourage those looking to improve their take on the world and those who may need a little encouragement in coming out of themselves. When contacting us please give as many details about yourself as you can along with any relevant experience you have had. It will be useful to know what you would like to achieve during your visit and why you would like to come and stay with us specifically.
