  Hello and welcome!
  
  My name is Richard, founder and Executive Director of Murphy Charitable Foundation Uganda, a nonprofit organisation established in 2018 to support vulnerable children, women, youths and communities.
  
  Our main initiative is the Bukedea Learning Lab, a community-based learning Centre providing free after-school support to children. We partner with six government primary schools and enroll approximately 80 children each year, particularly those who struggle with reading and writing or come from vulnerable and low-income families. We help children improve their English, literacy, and mathematics skills through educational games, creative activities, and a supportive learning environment.
  
  We welcome Workawayers who enjoy working with children, practissing English, supporting reading, writing and mathematics, sharing knowledge, and bringing creative ideas to make learning fun. We also run a Pen Pal Program, connecting children in Uganda with friends around the world, and community activities that promote women's empowerment.
  
  Flexible Volunteering Opportunities
  
  We understand that travelers have different schedules, so you are welcome to volunteer with us for 3 days, 5 days, 7 days, or up to two weeks. If you are visiting another charity or community project near Bukedea or in Uganda, we would be delighted if you could set aside even one to three days to visit our Learning Lab and spend time with the children.
  
  Our Learning Lab operates for approximately two hours each afternoon after school. During the mornings, volunteers with additional time can join us to visit local communities, meet families, learn about their daily lives, and better understand the challenges facing the children we support. In the afternoons, you can participate in learning activities, practice English with children, support literacy and numeracy, and share your skills and ideas.
  
  If you are travelling to Uganda specifically to volunteer with us, we warmly welcome you to spend up to two weeks with our organization. Depending on your interests and availability, you may also learn about our Pen Pal Program, women's empowerment activities, and community development work.
  
  Whether you are travelling alone or as part of a school, university, family, staff, or missionary group, we welcome you to join us, experience Ugandan culture, exchange ideas, and make meaningful connections.
  
  Come for a few days or stay longer, every contribution matters. We look forward to welcoming you to Bukedea and working together to create brighter futures for children and stronger communities in Uganda.

  Travellers will gain practical experience in community volunteering and discover everyday life in rural Uganda. They can learn basic local language phrases, try traditional Ugandan foods, participate in local games, and visit families to understand their culture and daily experiences.
  
  At our Learning Lab, travellers can develop communication, teamwork, and cross-cultural skills while helping children practise English, reading, writing, and mathematics. They can learn how educational games such as 5 Stars, Snakes and Ladders, multiplication games, and abacus activities make learning fun. They are also welcome to introduce games and teaching ideas from their own countries.
  
  Travellers will have opportunities to exchange knowledge, share their talents, build friendships with local children and community members, and gain a deeper understanding of rural education and community development in Uganda. They will leave with practical volunteering experience, new cultural perspectives, and meaningful memories.

  Aide

  We warmly welcome you to the Bukedea Learning Lab! Join us in helping vulnerable children improve their English, reading, writing, and mathematics through fun and creative learning activities.
  
  We use educational games such as 5 Stars, multiplication games, Snakes and Ladders, and abacuses to make learning enjoyable and interactive. You are also welcome to introduce new games and creative activities that can help children improve their English and maths skills.
  
  You can also read stories, share your skills, visit local communities, meet families, and learn about our Pen Pal Program and women's empowerment activities.
  
  You don't need to be a professional teacher, just bring your kindness, creativity, and willingness to make a difference. Whether you join us for a few days, a week, or two weeks, we look forward to sharing Ugandan culture and creating meaningful experiences together!

  Our organisation has rooms at the Learning Lab, although they are not yet fully equipped or self-contained. There are also affordable hotels and guesthouses in Bukedea town.
  
  We are happy to discuss accommodation options with you in advance and explore suitable arrangements based on your needs and the length of your stay. Please contact us before your visit so we can plan together.

  During their free time, helpers can explore Bukedea town, visit local markets, sample Ugandan food, learn local language phrases, enjoy traditional games, and spend time getting to know the community. We are happy to share ideas for places to visit and help helpers learn more about local customs and daily life.
  
  For those interested in exploring beyond Bukedea, trips to other parts of Uganda can be discussed, including nature, wildlife, and cultural attractions. Popular destinations include Pian Upe Wildlife Reserve and Kidepo Valley National Park, although longer trips require advance planning.
  
  Local transport options include boda bodas (motorcycle taxis), taxis, and public minibuses. We can offer guidance on local transport and help discuss travel arrangements where possible. Helpers should plan longer journeys in advance, especially when travelling to national parks or other distant destinations.
  
  We welcome people who are curious, respectful, open to learning, and happy to exchange ideas. Whether you stay for a few days or two weeks, we hope you will experience Ugandan hospitality, build meaningful friendships, and leave with a deeper understanding of our community.

  We welcome digital nomads who wish to combine remote work with meaningful community volunteering. Our Bukedea Learning Lab has spacious rooms and furniture, providing a comfortable environment for working, reading, or planning activities. Volunteers can support children's learning for approximately two hours each afternoon and use their mornings for remote work or community visits. Please contact us in advance to discuss internet connectivity and your workspace needs. Bringing your own laptop and mobile internet connection is recommended.

  We welcome travellers exploring Uganda in campervans. Our Bukedea Learning Lab has parking space, and we are happy to discuss arrangements before your arrival. Please contact us with the approximate length, width, and height of your campervan so we can confirm that it can be accommodated safely. Please arrange your visit in advance to confirm parking availability, overnight arrangements, and access to facilities.

  We welcome Workawayers travelling with well-behaved pets, provided arrangements are discussed with us in advance. Please let us know the type, breed, size, and number of pets you will be bringing, such as dogs or cats. We ask that pets are friendly, vaccinated where applicable, and kept under control at all times. As our Learning Lab serves children, pets must be supervised and kept away from learning activities unless their presence has been agreed upon in advance. Owners are responsible for their pets' food, care, cleaning, and safety during their stay. Please contact us before arrival so we can confirm suitable arrangements.
