Description
Hello everyone!
We are a couple in our thirties and are running a small surf guesthouse on the coast of Portugal. Our house is located walking distance to the beach where the waves can be very nice, so our clients are mostly surfers. The village is quite small but it has a lot of natural charm and everything you might need and it's connected well with Lisbon by public transport. The vibe in our house is very cosy, we want everyone to feel like they're at home. However, it is not a stereotypical surf house so parties are not allowed and we want our volunteers to lead as examples.
Sometimes we take some holidays and during those times we need help with running our house. That means we're looking for welcoming, nice people with great organisational skills who will take the role of the hosts and consider everyone's wellbeing. We're looking for people who can keep a professional distance while entertaining and ideally have some experience in the hospitality business.Types d'aide et opportunités d'apprendre

Our house is a place where people share their stories by the fireplace or while watching sunsets on the beach. It's a place where you can meet a lot of new people and make some very good friends. Our guests are mostly between 18 and 40 years old and come from all over the world. You also have a great opportunity to try out surfing on the local beach (we can discuss the details if you're interested) and enjoy the incredible nature in the area. We also love to share our vegan recipes so if you want to improve your cooking skills we'd love to help you out!

We put a lot of love and ourselves into our house so we're looking for people who can cherish that. In our absence, you will take up a role of the house manager and your tasks will be:
- Preparing breakfast for guests. Our household is vegan, but we offer cheese and milk for breakfast as well. Otherwise, we serve homemade spreads, baked goods, etc. It would be great if you have some basic cooking and baking knowledge so that you can follow our very simple recipes and prepare some things yourself. Otherwise, we mostly prepare breakfasts in advance and freeze them so that you don't need to worry about that. Mostly, you need to put everything on the table in the morning and then be there to welcome the guests, answer their questions and engage in conversation. After that, you clean the table and the kitchen.
-Making lunch for the surf instructors upon request. Sometimes the surf school we work with orders lunch for their surf instructors with us. It's great if you're able to cook some basic vegan meals, but it's not a must.
- Cleaning. It is very important to us that our house is clean and that our guests can enjoy that. We're looking for individuals who are very detail oriented and know what spotless means. Your tasks regarding this would include bathroom and common areas check ups once or twice per day, preparing beds and rooms for new guests and cleaning after old guests.
- Welcoming new guests and giving them instructions. This is a very important part of your job. As the face of our house, you need to be very welcoming and warm, while still providing all the important information. And don't worry, we will tell you everything you need to know about our house, our village and the way we work. If you're confident when speaking to new people you shouldn't have any problem with this part.
- Making sure everyone is happy and has everything they need.
- Working together with the staff of the surf school, being in constant contact with them to know the time and place of the surf lessons. In the busier periods, we might also provide you with another volunteer to help you with all the tasks so you would also be in charge of communicating with them and giving them tasks.

We usually prefer if people can stay with us at least some time before we go on vacation just so that we can show them our house and everything they need to know. In that period, you will probably have to share a room with our guests (if possible, we try to accommodate you in a private room, but in the busier periods it's not always possible so you'll have to sleep in a shared dorm for 2 or 4 people). When we leave the house, you will take our double room, so you will have some privacy. The bathroom is shared.
In exchange for all hours and tasks we also offer payment, which is the minimum hourly wage in Portugal.Autres infos...
We moved to Portugal 3 years ago after living in our camper car for a few months, looking for a nice house on the coast. Some of the values that are very important to us include vegan lifestyle, care for the environment, love for animals (we feed lots of stray cats in the area so we always need help with that, we also do a lot of TNR) and open view of the world. We love to host volunteers and other guests because we feel like it's a great way to make friends all around the world and learn more each day.
Our coastal village is all about the nature - the ocean, the sun, the dunes, the beach, the cliffs, the waves. You can also do some sightseeing in the area, we are located one hour north of Lisbon and some interesting sights in the area are Obidos, Sintra, Ericeira, Peniche, Cabo da Roca, Santa Cruz and so on. For most it's much easier to visit if you have a car, there is a rental company close to our house. We're always happy to give advice on what to do and see in the area!Informations complémentaires
