Description
We live on a hobby farm in a beautiful forest backing onto the mountain. We have been here for 20 years, and it has become a rustic and creative home. There is a large vegetable garden, a very low-key kitchen garden, an orchard and a few paddocks where we keep cows and sheep. We have chickens and also two very well-loved dogs. Depending on the time of year, (and with varying levels of success and reliability) we are able to produce our own meat, eggs, dairy, vegetables and fruit. We have practiced biodynamic methods from the beginning, and we are invested in this type of farming. We do everything here ourselves, and there are a lot of creative solutions and projects around the farm.
We are a family of six, Pete&Bel, Anja&Luuk, Jac and Meg. Our parents (Pete and Bel) raised us here on the farm, where we all still live part time, in various small houses and caravan set-ups. While the family often enjoy socialising, we are all people who appreciate space and time alone; particularly during the week, we like to have very quiet evenings, so most days you would be cooking breakfast and dinner for yourself in the caravan.
I (Jac) will be living next door in the cabin, and I’ll often be around in the evenings, for a drink or yarn around the fire. I traveled as a workawayer myself and my favourite aspect was learning about people and their experiences, so I will be keen to catch up! Most days there will be someone around during the day who will be working with you, or ready to have lunch together or a cuppa and a chat. Over the weekend, we like to have fires outside and enjoy a meal together, which we would love for you to join if it’s your interest. However, we won’t always be around and all of us have time we like to be alone, or spending quietly. Because of this, we would be more comfortable hosting someone who is happy by themselves, and able to work autonomously as well. We also encourage friends or partners to apply, so you can interact between yourselves when we are not around. If you are happy spending time alone, or enjoy your own space as well, that’s great!Types d'aide et opportunités d'apprendre

We also want to provide you with the hobby-farm experience, teach you about biodynamic farming if that is your interest, and show you around the area.
We can offer learning about gardening, biodynamic farming, building and DIY (though creatively and often not by the book!) We recently built a log cabin on the bottom of the property, mostly through the powers of Youtube and a lot of trial and error.
Aside from the learning opportunities in the work itself, we are keen to share beautiful Tasmania with our guests. We are keen bushwalkers, and this part of the country offers a wide range of hikes, climbing, kayaking, mountain biking etc for those adventurous in the outdoors. There truly is no better place to explore. More often than not, one of us is heading out on a weekend to do something we are happy for you to join!
We have a track from our house that leads directly to Cathedral rock, a 3 hour return walk. This track also leads to the Thumbs (a small range of mountains),Mt mawson, Kunanyi (Mt Wellington) and the range of walks that it has to offer.Projets impliquant des enfants

Aide
Most of the help we would need is outdoors, including gardening, animal care, general maintenance, diy projects and building. The work is mostly physical, though there is no expectation for you to do any heavy lifting, and the gardening can often be done sitting down.
If you have any particular skills or interests you would like to bring we are always keen to discuss!
Some of our current projects include finishing the design and building a bath house behind the log cabin. We are also thinking of installing a fire bath and outdoor shower. There is also a lot of work to be done in the garden around this time of year.
We would not expect more than 4-5 hours, 4-5 days a week. (Around 20 hours a week). We are flexible about how you spread this over the week, keeping in mind that you may want a few consecutive days to explore a different part of the state.
We do request a minimum stay of a week. We would be happy to have you on for up to a month or more, with a discussion after a week or two to check in about your needs and to see if we are a good fit.Langues

We would offer a self contained caravan for you to stay in, for one or two people. (There is a double bed and a single bed). There is hot water, a small shower and a composting toilet. There is currently no wifi connection in the caravan, but there is in the main house. It is rustic but cosy and comfortable. There is a Sauna under the main house that we usually light about once a week, which you would be welcome to use as well.
There is access to the gardens and bush all around, with plenty of spots for meditation, reflection, yoga or anything else that requires a peaceful space. We all love to take advantage of the beautiful place we live in, especially in spring and summer.
We will provide food for you. There will be general basics, and fresh fruit/veg will be subject to availability, for example when there is produce from the garden, or depending on what is on offer in the stores/markets. We can cater for most dietary requirements.
Again, we would ask you to cook for yourself in the mornings and evenings, however, we often share some meals over the weekend.Autres infos...
We live a 5 minute drive, 15 minute ride or 30 minute walk from the nearest bus stop. We can lend you a bike. The bus services are not great, but we are often going out to different places during the day and are happy to offer lifts. If you do have a car, you would have a bit more freedom, but again, we are more than happy to take you with us, and if you are interested in something in particular, one of us can take you.
There are also a bunch of great markets around, farmers markets and craft etc. There are beautiful beaches, cideries and wineries,
There are a few small art galleries around, and of course, the famous MONA, which is a must see for any visitor interested in art.
In town, which is a 30 minute bus or car trip, there are plenty of bars, pubs, restaurants and shops to explore. The city is small but there is plenty happening.Informations complémentaires
