Description
GENERAL INFO
*NOVEMBER 2025*
*We are looking for two friends or a couple to help with our olive harvest. if you would like to join us from the 22nd for two weeks please get in touch. The oil is for our own use and we will of course share some of this liquid gold with you! It is quite physically demanding work but very rewarding. We can share the cooking duties during this period. *
I live in Southern Spain (Las Alpujarras) in a very diverse, multicultural area. I try to live as sustainably as possible on my large piece of land. I live off grid in the countryside but within walking distance (10minutes) of the nearby town with all conveniences available. I am on solar power with internet access and back up generator if necessary. I love being surrounded by nature and live a fairly quiet life working the land, reading and practicing yoga.
I am looking for a couple or two people interested in helping in the garden and maybe some days pet sitting. I need help with watering, preparing the vegetable patch and with ongoing small projects. Some days we can prepare and eat lunch together or I will provide food to prepare yourself. You will have use of the yurt with a separate shower cabin and compost toilet. In the summer months the stone casita will be available.
Vicente who also lives on the land is Spanish so you can practice or improve your language skills and he also runs a ceramic studio in the nearby town where you can try your hand on the potters wheel!

Echange culturel et opportunités d'apprendre
The area I live is very diverse culturally, with people from many parts of the world mingling with the local Spanish community. It’s a great place to learn or improve your Spanish language skills and observe some traditional Spanish ways of living. There is a weekly market with fresh fruit and vegetables and local artisan products. There are many artists, musicians and crafts people living in the area and also varied yoga, dance and other physical movement classes.

Aide
Ideally I welcome a couple or two people to help with the vegetable patch, watering some plants, help with small land projects and occasional pet sitting for Suso the cat who lives in the casita and Dante my young dog. Also help with cooking and shopping would be much appreciated. I am quite flexible about help hours and some days we may work more or less depending on ongoing projects and the season. In July and August I usually visit friends and family and may require a couple to pet sit and water some plants. In the summer months you need to be prepared to arise early in order to walk Dante and water some plants as in the heat of the day you will want to take a siesta in the casita! Also during the months of November and December help is needed to harvest the olives and take them to the nearby olive mill. We have around twenty olive trees and this oil is for our own personal use. Of course we will share some of this ‘liquid gold’ with you! Harvesting would involve helping five hours each day for maybe four or five days. A challenging physical task but very rewarding, especially when you get to sample the fruits of your labour!

Hébergement
You would have use of a casita (stone cottage) or yurt with separate shower hut and compost toilet. Power is from a solar system with a back up generator when necessary. Basic internet is available.
Cooking will be shared activity for lunch on help days. Food will be provided for breakfast and evening meals and non-help days for your own preparation. Occasionally if there are more than two non-help days in a week you may need to provide your own food.
In the summer months I need a couple or two people to water some plants, pet sit and generally look after the place as I will be visiting family. You will provide your own food during this time.
Autres infos...
This is a beautiful, tranquil area of Spain near Granada city with many high mountain villages to explore and several beaches about one hour away on the bus. Transport links are frequent to Granada and once daily to the coast. There is a market every Thursday with many local products for sale. There are many hiking and walking trails to enjoy locally. Many musicians and artists live in the area and there are frequent performances and exhibitions to experience.

Possibilité d’accueillir les digital nomads
I have basic wifi (5mb) which should be sufficient for online work using zoom etc. Several workawayers have successfully worked online from the casita were a wifi extender is installed. There may be some issues on successive grey days if the solar system is not charging.

Espace pour garer des vans
A small to medium sized camper van can park on the upper land inside the gates. With some work it is possible to prepare a parking area for a larger vehicle on the lower land outside the gates. This could be a potential set up for a longer term workaway situation. All workawayers will have access to the casita, shower cabin and compost toilet on the upper land.

Possibilité d'accueillir les animaux
Dogs if they are cat friendly and can cope with a lively young dog!

Suso (12 ans)
Suso is an older cat who enjoys relaxing in the sunshine on the terrace and occasionally playing chase with Dante! He likes to snack on food left on worktops and although very friendly will let you know when enough is enough!
Dante (1 an)
Young male Podenco cross, full of mischief and energy! Loves a walk in the early morning and another shorter one in the evening or a game of football in the land. Very friendly with other dogs and hoomans. Learning to be obedient!
