  Description

  Hello! Here are Majo, No'j, and Elena. We have a women-led hostel and tourism project located in San Juan La Laguna, Lake Atitlán
  
  The project was created by Majo as a space to bring together the community, artists, and travelers, making our space something truly unique and genuine. We work closely with a network of Mayan Tz’utujil artists and families; therefore, our values are cultural celebration, sustainability, respect, and shared responsibility.
  
  The team is led by Majo and No’j (owners) and Elena (housekeeping and maintenance). In addition, we work with a network of 8 women and 8 men who are artists, hosts, drivers, tour guides, and part of our maintenance team.
  
  We strive to work consciously and intentionally, making sure that tourism supports local families and honors cultural knowledge and traditions. Volunteering with us means becoming part of this ecosystem and integrating into the daily life of the community.
  
  We are a flexible team that values openness, communication, and care. We are a small project, so the way we build trust and respect is very important to us. We share everyday life, meals, conversations, and responsibilities, creating an environment where everyone can feel welcome, safe, and comfortable.
  
  The hostel is located in San Juan La Laguna, in a non-touristic area, offering a peaceful and welcoming space with amazing views of the Mayan Face (Rostro Maya). This makes it an ideal place for people who want to travel slowly, connect with the community, and have an authentic experience.
  
  Volunteers support the daily activities of the hostel, mainly with housekeeping, reception support, and some maintenance tasks.
  
  We also have a small tourism agency offering cultural and ethical experiences. Volunteers can support us with guest orientation, storytelling, photography, or documenting experiences.
  
  Work schedules are discussed openly with the team, making sure there is always time to rest, explore, and enjoy personal time.
  
  Volunteering with us means learning sustainable ways to contribute, but also having the opportunity to participate in our tours, day trips, and cultural experiences whenever possible. You will be able to share fun moments and create meaningful connections with local artists, weavers, cooks, guides, and families, enriching your stay with us.
  
  You can also explore Lake Atitlán through hikes, sunrise viewpoints, kayaking, and forest walks; practice your Spanish and become part of our community.
  
  We are looking for people who are interested in art, sustainability, and ethical tourism. We value qualities such as being respectful, open-minded, and communicative. It is important to feel comfortable living in shared spaces, to be responsible, take initiative, be curious about local culture, and genuinely interested in becoming part of community life.

  You’ll dive in a community of artists and beautiful people that nourishes a very familiar and friendly environment. You will be participating in our experiential tours and artistic activities with locals, we bring principles related to sustainability, culture and ethics traveling in Global South territories.
  
  We thrive to develop a traveler culture that honors and celebrates the communities as a way to develop solidarity and wellbeing in the world.

  You will be working with local artists and workers supporting their daily day activities, many of them are learning English and you can help them to gain confidence and practices and you can have plenty of opportunities to polish your Spanish.

  Hébergement

  One room (in slow season) bunker (on high season) with space for storage of your luggage. Shared bathroom.
  
  We have exchange of 4 hours for 5 days a week (total 20 hours), this includes one meal (lunch) that is shared with the staff that is part of the cultural exchange, and access to the kitchen and groceries for cooking other meals.
