Description
Bom dia! We are Michèle, Samuel, and our toddler Jorge. After years of working and learning on Workaway projects ourselves, we have put down roots in between Sintra mountain and the wild Atlantic coast — and we’re so excited to now welcome other travellers and share everything we're learning whilst setting up our off-grid homestead.
To tell you a little more about us and the land:
I'm a permaculture educator with a focus on food sovereignty and ancestral skills but am full-time mom'ing at the moment whilst (trying to) take care of our vegetable garden. My husband is a carpenter but to be honest, he can do just about anything :) He's the one who builds the houses and installs the solar systems and does the plumbing and . ... You name it! Our baby, Jorginho, is a strong-willed hilarious little guy who knows where to find the strawberries in the garden and most of all loves to do a little dance to his favourite music (Bob Dylan).
We’re in our third year on the land so all the basic structures are in place, but we have an endless to-do list that keeps us entertained. Even though we're always quite busy, we love living slow and with the seasons of nature. Our vision is to live a 'home-made life'. Not just growing our own food and building our own houses, but also just to design our own day-to-day lives the way we like it: sovereign and not too dependent on mainstream society. That being said, we do love the mix between countryside and city-life that Sintra brings (and we never say no to a good local beer!).
We’re located just 40 minutes from Lisbon — close to everything, but it feels very wild here. The land is surrounded by forest and looks out toward Sintra Natural Park. Shops, restaurants, beautiful beaches, and hiking trails are all within cycling distance, and we have good public transport links nearby.
What we're looking for:
At this stage, we’re especially looking for independent, practical, and curious people (individuals or couples) who share our values and enjoy learning new skills hands-on. Because we have a toddler, we won’t always be able to share all meals or days together, so our current set-up works best for Workawayers who are happy with flexible hours and a bit of autonomy.Types d'aide et opportunités d'apprendre

We can share skills that include all aspects of off-grid living, from the technical and practical aspects like building and solar power, to gardening and working with animals. We're very keen to share all our wins and failures, as we've learned a lot from our own mistakes in these last years.
We are always excited to learn new skills and want volunteers to help with tasks that align with their interests.Aide « au pair »

We offer our glamping site, which is a 4x4m retired army tent with a double bed (or two singles), kitchenette with camping stove, outdoor bath with a view on the mountain and compost toilet.
You will also have access to a large shared outdoor kitchen where we will have some shared meals. On a typical day we make our own breakfasts, have lunch together and possibly dinner. If there is no shared meal there will be a stocked kitchen to cook your own meal. We are flexible with this and open to people who may want to work less days but provide more of their own food.Autres infos...
In your time off you may want to explore Sintra National Park, castles, local villages, visit the beaches or hike along the cliffs. We are also a short drive from Cascais, Ericeira, and Lisbon. We can lend a bicycle and there are city buses and trains.
