Hello, my name is Anastasia. I'm bilingual, English/ Greek and I run an equestrian club in Cyclades.
It's a non profit horse riding club on the island of Syros, capital of Cyclades in Greece.
This is the only riding school in the prefecture of Cyclades accredited by the Hellenic Equestrian Federation, offers riding lessons, hacks, therapy riding, seminars on animal welfare and other educational activities for adults and youngsters, as well as livery facilities and horse transport services.
Riding lessons are given at the centre, to both locals and holidaymakers, and we also go out riding in the beautiful surrounding hills. During the summer season, we offer morning swims with the horses - a truly magical experience!
The horses here are extremely healthy and well cared for here.

You will get to help with our horses and students, learn a little Greek, enjoy the beauties of Syros, island hop if you wish to Mykonos, Paros, Tinos, as we are located in the centre of all and have ferry routes to other islands on a daily basis. Also, you will gain experience about horse caring, helping with tourists and assisting in horse riding lessons.
A knowledge of horses and keeping them and their space clean, is more important than anything :) ideally you would feel comfortable around horses and riders, feeling at ease to show what you know to others . Being able to muck out stables, handle, groom, put horses tack on is must. Being polite and helpful with guests is essential, as is a good knowledge of English or Greek (other languages are welcome).
We are looking for volunteers to help with our daily routine of lessons and looking after horses & stables. This includes, mucking out stables, tacking up, teaching, leading out rides (on horseback and on foot for beginners), cleaning the yard and other bits and bobs that need doing in the riding club.
Volunteers are asked to help at least 4 hours a day, for 5 days. These 4 hours could be over a split shift - so it could be 1 hour in the morning and 3 hours in the evening for example, or 4 hours in the evening. According to the time of year we do things accordingly. For example , we do not do tasks during the middle of the day during summer days - it's too hot for both us and the horses.
Workawayers staying for more than two months will be preferred.
Minimum stay is two months.
There is accommodation on site which will be given for free, and there is a kitchen area upstairs (which is also the club house). Two volunteers share their room. Workawayers will prepare their own meals.
Workawayers can go swimming, sightseeing or island hoping once on Syros. There is a free bus to and from town, the stop is an 10 minute walk from the riding club and runs every 20 minutes except from Sundays.
