Description
We are looking for enthusiastic helpers to join us in running and developing our exciting farm , community and eco-tourism project, in beautiful North Wales.
We have several eco - building projects on the go, including a cob buidling .
This February and March 2023 we want to to host a group of workawayers to help with buiding projects : people with some basic building skills particularly welcome , but we're open to those who want to learn more as well !
We are a couple in our 60s , working in Health and in the local University. Family and local friends are also involved in our farm. We have close links with other projects nearby who welcome workaway volunteers and sometimes meet for shared tasks or celebrations, so there is usually a lively group of people around.
We live on the edge of a village on the boundary of Snowdonia National Park, 5 miles from the University city of Bangor which has a lively cultural life and is situated on the Menai Straits, opposite Ynys Mon ( the island of Anglesey). If you love mountains and the sea, this is the place for you to visit.
From the farm there are views of the Carneddi mountain range, always changing with the weather and the seasons.
This is a 25 acre farm : around 3 acres are given over to our vegetable and fruit garden, (and polytunnel) situated in a circular enclosure, and working on a system of crop rotation. Our main enterprise at present is growing vegetables using natural methods . We are incorporating permaculture techniques and working towards organic status. The produce is sold to the local community.
We also have 6 acres of meadow which is used for hay, haylage and grazing , and 16 acres of environmentally rich woodland and wetland , with mature trees, a stream running through, ( If you are brave enough you can dip in the stream every morning ! )
We have 10 ducks and a flock of 30 very free range beautiful chickens who provide eggs .
Our aim is to increase existing links with the local community to provide opportunities for involvement with our project for the benefit of all.
We have some local volunteers and aslo have a community orchard on the farm .
In addition to our main house , we have a two bedroom stone built cottage , two wood -clad small buildings , plus a caravan . We plan to offer one of our fields for camping in the summer months . These are all used as accommodation for those who want to experience and benefit from our unique environment.
As a workaway volunteer you will be staying in a caravan or small wooden building, or possibly a residential buiding we have just converted most likely sharing the space with other workaways. There are wood stoves to keep warm in cold weather. Some have toilet and shower inside, and others use a toilet and shower in a unit just nearby.
There are facilities to cook in each unit : we will provide all food, mostly vegetarian, from the farm. Mostly you will be cooking your own food, sometimes taking it in turns to help prepare a communal meal.
On the farm we have a unique 5 sided wooden building which is used for celebrations with friends, involving music, dancing, good food and usually a bonfire and for various gatherings and workshops. Our plan this year is to expand this building to include a small kitchen facility for campers and groups, where meals can be prepared using farm produce.
Another exciting project is the restoration of an old mill building on the farm, with the idea of offering extra accommodation.
If you would like to come and stay and help on the farm, we would welcome you ! If you have gardening , building or cooking skills that would be a bonus, but the main requirement is enthusiasm , interest , and a willingness to work hard in the open air, but also enjoy our beautiful environment.
We ask for a minimum commitment of 4 weeks , and a maximum 5 hours work per day, 5 days a week, so you will have plenty of leisure to enjoy what the local area has to offer. If it works well for us all, there are possibilities to stay with us for longer.
We prefer couples as our main accomodation is a caravan with one bedroom with a double bed .Sometimes we can accomodate individuals too.
The help required will be very varied, mostly outside in the vegetable garden, also helping to look after ducks and chickens , and building and maintenance around the farm. You may also occasionally be asked to help with cooking and other household duties . Workawayers will not be helping or serving food to paying guests.
We look forward to sharing ideas, skills and stories with you. Our hope is that this will be a memorable and enjoyable experience for you .Types d'aide et opportunités d'apprendre

The help required will be very varied, mostly outside in the vegetable garden. There are opportunities to get involved in planting, mulching, weeding and harvesting our veg crop, learning about all the tasks in the garden. You can help to feed and look after ducks and chickens , and collect eggs. There is always building and maintenance to be done around the farm- projects on footpaths or minor repairs on buildings. Also ( supervised ) help with building projects - converting a beautiful old mill, and extending our roundhouse . This might involve some lifting and carrying, and use of tools .
You will usually cook for yourself, and will also occasionally be asked to help with cooking for other workawayers and visitors , and to do some other household duties such as cleaning . The main help will be outside in the vegetable garden, with the poultry, and with our building projects. Workawayers will not be helping or serving food to paying guests.

Here, the mountains and sea are on your doorstep. There are buses from our village into Bangor .
From here you can explore the beautiful Snowdonia National Park, the coastline and Ynys Mon (Island of Anglesey) where there are many prehistoric sites , as well as wonderful beaches.
The North Wales Pilgrims Path passes through our farm and we are also on a cycle track that leads into Bangor and up the Ogwen valley.
Bangor is a University city with good arts and cultural facilities. It also has a mainline train station , so cities such as Liverpool or Manchester can be visited for a day trip.
If you like thrills, we are very near the biggest zip wire in Europe !Informations complémentaires

So what started as a leap of faith into the unknown, turned out to be a dynamic, universal experience. This was the longest Workaway I have done, at around 6months, watching the seasons roll, and feeling all the subtle changes of the surrounding wonder that is North Wales.
