Description
Hi everyone
We are Frazer (40), Mireia (45), Elliot (8) and Gaia (6), a small family living in the heart of Portugal, surrounded by nature, cork oak trees, holm oaks and olive trees.
We arrived here five years ago to help with some family matters that were only supposed to last a short time… but life had other plans. Only now, after all this time, do we finally have the freedom to truly begin this life project and slowly shape everything we have been dreaming of.
We share our farm with a big animal family: several bottle-fed lambs, 3 pigs and their 23 piglets, ducks, chickens, geese, dogs… and soon a few new ducklings too 😊
We love nature and try to live simply and in harmony with it. Every year we grow a large vegetable garden to help feed ourselves, and we also make a small one with the children so they can learn, experiment and grow connected to the land.
We are curious, creative and open-minded people. Both Frazer and I used to work at sea, although our roots come from graphic design and photography. We love learning new things and are very much “Jack & Jane of all trades” 😄
Right now we are beginning a whole new chapter, and there is so much to do!!
We would love to share this adventure with people who enjoy learning, exchanging experiences, living alongside a family and enjoying simple life in the Portuguese countryside 🌿

Echange culturel et opportunités d'apprendre
We believe cultural exchange is one of the most beautiful parts of experiences like this. We would love to share our way of life in the Portuguese countryside, our daily routines with animals, gardening, simple living and the process of restoring an old farm little by little.
At the same time, we are genuinely excited to learn from the people who come here, their cultures, languages, skills, recipes, stories and different ways of seeing life. We especially enjoy long conversations, shared meals, creative ideas and learning practical skills from one another.
Our children are very curious and sociable, so we think it is a wonderful opportunity for them to grow up surrounded by different cultures, languages and perspectives.
We are not experts pretending to teach. We are people learning as we go, and we hope to create an environment where everyone can share knowledge, experiences and inspiration together
Aide
We are looking for people who are not afraid of getting their hands dirty.
Our aim is to create a farm based on regenerative practices, and we would love help with many different areas: planning food forests, caring for the vegetable garden, although the sheep have just eaten most of it! building greenhouses, helping out with the animals, fencing, cooking, cleaning, and helping with everyday life around the farm.
If you have building experience or consider yourself a handy person, that would be a real bonus if interested.
The help we are asking for is not for the family business, but rather to support us with our daily tasks, which at the moment, combined with family life, are quite a lot. Initially, the help will mainly involve tasks around the house, gardening, looking after the animals, and perhaps helping us improve their animals shelters and living areas.
We need help on many different fronts. We are only just beginning, so coming here would really mean helping us shape and build this project from the ground up, together.

At home we mainly speak English and Spanish, and we are also learning Portuguese little by little through daily life here in Portugal 😊 We really enjoy languages and cultural exchange, and we would love for our children to grow up hearing different languages, accents and ways of communicating (although Gaia already seems to be an expert in Italian, as she can proudly say “Buongiorno” and “pepperoni pizza” 😄). We are always happy to learn new words and expressions from other cultures and would love to share ours too. Whether around the dinner table, working together outside or simply having a coffee, we think language exchange happens naturally through everyday life and shared experiences
Hébergement
At the moment, Workawayers will stay in a simple but comfortable room within the main family house. Depending on availability and the season, there may also be the possibility of staying in one of the separate traditional farm houses as we continue restoring them little by little.
We live in the countryside, surrounded by nature, so life here is peaceful, quiet and quite rustic in places. (more real farm life than luxury ), although we have a nice little pool for those hot summer days!
Shared meals will be provided. Ideally, cooking duties will be shared and taken in turns, unless there is someone particularly happy to take charge of the kitchen.
We love discovering new flavours and recipes from different cultures, so planning meals together with whoever is staying with us is something we are open to do .
Autres infos...
We are in the Alto Alentejo, a beautiful and peaceful part of Portugal surrounded by rolling countryside, cork oak forests, olive trees and lakes 😊
Although we live rurally, there is actually quite a lot to explore nearby. There is a waterpark in Galveias and another one in Avis, which are great during the hot summers. The Maranhão lake is very close to us and perfect for swimming, kayaking or simply relaxing by the water.
The beautiful marble town of Estremoz, famous for its lovely Saturday market, is around 30 minutes away, while the historic city of Évora is about 45 minutes from here. Lisbon can be reached in roughly 1 hour and 45 minutes, and the beach is around 2 hours away.
Having a car definitely helps if you want to explore the area fully, as there are many charming villages, lakes, walking areas and hidden spots nearby. Alto Alentejo is also very well known for its wineries and excellent local wines — perfect for anyone who enjoys a nice glass every now and then 🍷
Life here is peaceful, simple and very connected to nature. Summers are hot, winters can be surprisingly cold and wet, and every season brings something different to experience
