Description
LAST MINUTE DOG/HOUSE SITTING / OFFGRID MEXICO / DOG RESCUE :) / JULY 15 - NOVEMBER + 2023
We are a non-profit dog rescue and sanctuary in rural Yucatan, Mexico. Normally there are between 20-
40 formerly homeless dogs in our care.
Mexico is said to have the highest number of stray dogs in all of Latin America. If you love dogs and are
concerned about animal welfare, this place will melt your heart. We take in dogs that people have
thrown away, abused or have simply never acknowledged.Types d'aide et opportunités d'apprendre

Our rescue is off grid in the middle of the Yucatecan jungle. Originally, over 300 years ago, this was a hacienda cattle ranch. We have been renovating the old buildings and are almost complete. While it's a work in progress, the main house house, guest apartment and dog corrals are done. It's living history.
The property is 50+ acres. There is space to connect with nature, grow food if you wish, and practice your Spanish while helping dogs to live a life with dignity and respect.Projets impliquant des enfants

Aide
We are looking for long-term volunteers to help with dog care and house sitting.
Dog Care: The rescue dogs live in a park-like outdoor setting. You would be responsible for daily care
and maintenance including feeding, watering, scooping poop, cleaning their pens and keeping them
entertained. They love butt scratches, baths, playing ball and belly rubs.
House sitting: You will be living in an apartment on the property and will also be responsible for
watching our house and our 5 personal dogs.
Living on the property are 6 people. My husband and I (from the US), a local Mexican couple who care
for the land, and a young couple from South Carolina who help with the dogs. My husband and I will be
away from JULY 25, 2023 – NOVEMBER 1, 2023 so we are looking for another set of hands to look after things.
You will need your own transportation (car or motorcycle). There is no public transportation available
directly to the hacienda. However with planning, you could potentially hire a driver.Langues parlées
Anglais: Courant
Espagnol: DébutantHébergement
You will be living in an apartment approx 100 meters from the dogs and 50 meters from the main
house. The apartment is a large studio with wifi, full kitchen (apartment size fridge and stove), reverse
osmosis drinking water, breakfast bar with barstools, full bathroom with hot water, 2 ceiling fans,
screened windows and fenced in yard (if you’re traveling with a dog).
The temperature in the summer in Yucatan can easily reach 105 degrees, so it’s important to understand
that it’s best to work early in the day and later in the evening. We routinely fumigate living areas, but it's not uncommon to a spider or scorpion inside the apartment. There are also snakes on the property - it is a jungle.Autres infos...
