    Description

We live in Golden, BC and have 40 acres of land in the middle of the forest. We have an amazing garden about 1 acre big, many trails and roads. We have two small children and four dogs so we're pretty busy!

We are happy to share our culture of living slowly away from the hustle and bustle by sharing our food and lifestyle. We're happy to help you with your English (reading children books has helped many workaways who have stayed with us). I like to share my recipes of baking and cooking with those interested.

We often need help chopping and stacking wood. In the spring we need help gardening and landscaping. In summer or fall we need help chinking on our log home (requires attention to detail and fine skills- an artist or painter would be great!). We also have many staining projects and building projects from year to year! The rest of the time we need childcare and help around the house like cleaning and cooking.

Nearby there are lots of natural parks to explore and amazing nature! You'd likely want a vehicle to get around in but we can drive you to and from town if you don't.

My husband and I both speak English and French. We have two young kids and are happy to share any of our knowledge running a large rural property in the forest. Reading children's books can often improve one's english and we love when people teach our children other languages.

My husband does land development work so could teach most anything about building. I'm a birth doula so know quite a lot about pregnancy, birth and infants. We attend church every weekend and would be happy to bring you with us. I love to cook and bake and am always happy to share my recipes as food is often such a cultural activity.

We can also show you around the Rocky Mountains as it fits with everyone's schedules! I try to take workaways on a nearby hike at least once a week when they are here. If you have your own car, I can send you to more trails!

As we have such a large property, learning resilience and some basic self-reliance are key. The power goes out at least a dozen times a year so it's always an adventure. Yes we have good internet and power and water, and it's good to learn how to entertain yourself without such amenities.

We have so many books we can lend to read (mostly in English) and are always crafting and playing with our children. I find it hard to describe what is unique about our Canadian culture, but the workaways who come always notice the differences in our way of life - which is also different from those who live in a Canadian city. We live slowly, involving our children in everything, and closely tied to nature.

We have a good garden started and it needs constant maintenance with watering and weeding. Extra things like building a trellis or a fence would be handy. We like to maximize the skills that every worker brings so we'll customize the work for you.

There's always work around our place to do if you need to make up more hours. That could include childcare or light house duties like cleaning or making meals, or it could be something like building walking trails around our property. We're also finishing up some chinking on our house.

You would only be working in our private house and garden (not in any of the spaces used by paying guests - although you might bump into them in the parking lot!).

If you're interested in coming in the winter, we have a spare room in our house you could stay in, and mostly require childcare and cleaning and meal prep. There is some outdoor work to do in the winter but that usually slows down quite a bit. Heavy work like shovelling and stacking wood is useful.

We live far away from other people, it's a good kilometter to the next house, so our way of life is slow and quiet. It can be a nice change from a busy city. We do have good internet so it's not an off grid experience, but we do suggest folks find quiet activities to enjoy such as reading or playing games instead of being on their devices.

There are mountain views everywhere you look on our property, and you're welcome to explore it with our four dogs with you!

    Hébergement

We have a camper trailer with a queen size mattress and a kitchenette available. We are hoping to have a second camper/bus in use this summer as well.
We have a bunkbed in our spare room for those doing house work and we hope to set up a bunk bed on our porch once the porch is completed!
We share meals in our log home or outside when it's not super mosquito-y. This summer we hope to have an outdoor kitchen for workaway use and collective meals as well as an outdoor shower near the camper village!
We have excellent high speed internet accessible from many places around the property.

We live about 15 minutes out from town and there's no transit or transportation around here. If you don't have a vehicle you would have to catch a ride with us in and out from town if you need anything. There's lots of nature to explore if you can find your way around or just hang out in our forest!

My 4 year old is in daycare and forest school throughout the week and my 1 year old stays with me. We're expecting our third child summer of 2026.

We appreciate non-smokers and there's usually a fire ban on in the summers because of intense forest fires. 2024 the mosquitos were terrible, and wasps. 2025 was not so bad but it rained all summer. 2026 I expect to be mosquito-y and smokey from fires again.

We have another few people who live and work on our property in trailers as well, so there are others around to hang out with. We have a small campground and several airbnb suites but we don't usually interact much with those guests as they're usually out and about exploring the national parks!

We have four dogs and three of them are outdoor dogs. They roam our property freely so we don't accept cats or other small animals that they might attack. We are more than happy to have dogs come and stay if they get along well with the pack!
