    Description

Hello friends! I am Başak (29), and I would like to welcome you on behalf of my parents, Yusuf (58) and Pervin (60), to be a part of our tiny farm life on the beautiful countryside of Izmir, Turkey. In our farm, we have olive trees and we also grow all kinds of Mediterranean herbs and vegetables, Moreover, we have a bunch of chickens and roosters, as well as beehives, which means we get to pick fresh eggs each morning for our breakfast, and harvest fresh honey.

In your free time, you can enjoy the quite and peaceful farm laying on the hammock, or enjoying the sun on a sunbed. Our farm is only a 20 minute drive from the beach, and a 5 minute drive from the suburban train, which will take you to the heart of Izmir city, or nearby historical attractions such as the Ephesus and the House of Virgin Mary, all within about an hour.

It's usually my mom that stays at the farm over the week, as my dad works in the city and typically only comes over on the weekends. And my mom has a preference for female guests.

I am currently finishing my PhD in Germany, so I do not personally live on-site, but I do visit for weeks at a time every summer, so we may cross paths! My parents have very limited knowledge of English, but they will be happy to learn through interacting with you, and they will make up for it by having you experience the best of Turkish Mediterranean culture. This also makes it an ideal stay for those who are interested in learning the Turkish language. My brother Onur (24) speaks English and he will also be there occassionally.

As this will be our first hosting experience, for now we are only open to guests from late April until June. At this time, main responsibilities will be preparing the soil and planting flowers and seedlings such as tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, herbs, melons, watermelons etc. Other routine tasks include mowing the lawn once a week, and letting the chickens out and collecting eggs every morning. We are open to stays from anywhere from 1 week to a month. We are looking forward to welcoming you!

World famous historical sites such as Ephesus and the House of Virgin Mary are only an hour away.
My parents don't speak English, so you will definitely pick up some Turkish during your stay.
A grand Turkish breakfast and lots of Turkish tea all day is a given. You will have the chance to eat a lot of local food, prepared with the products you will pick from the garden yourself.
My parents have always been very open to meeting people from all around the world, and they have traveled quite a bit themselves. Now that their children are grown and independent, they would always appreciate some new faces around the house.

    Aide

We are looking for help especially with gardening, but also other mundane things like feeding the chickens, picking up eggs, and simply to assist with daily tasks around for not more than a few hours each day. Depending on the month, you may pick olives and enjoy the product of your work - fresh olive oil, or get more fresh figs than you can eat in your lifetime!
