Description
Please contact us only if interested in this period. ( minimum 8 days) * THANKS*
My name is Leandro and I was born in the Abruzzo region, My wife Sandra, is from the nearby region Molise ( we met at university) but she was born in UK. She will answer to you emails.
Our son Giordano, 16 year old, was born in Rome. A kind of a mix😃.
We live in a hilly area in the open countryside in the heart of Abruzzo at about 400 meters above sea level. My mom Angela lives there and takes care of the maintenance of the house and gardens with passion and dedication, trying to preserve the local peasant traditions.
We are now opening our profile for
OCTOBER AND NOVEMBER and inviting volunteers preferable with a car o a caravan as we live in the countryside and it could be useful to move. This year we are now looking for help from the 19th October to the 4th of November.
ps: There are no public means near the house. A car could be necessary if you would like to move around because public means aren't available as we are in the country side.
We can also host for a week ( but at least 8 days) but we need to know the exact period to let also other volunteers to participate to our project.

We are organizing two groups (one in morning from around 8.30am and the other group in the afternoon from 1.30pm. If a volunteer helping in the morning wants to stay also in the afternoon he will be free to decide.
During the harvest food will be provided. During the harvest we have a lunch break directly under olive trees to eat sandwiches prepared by us in the morning . In the evening we have our dinner altogether. Sometimes dinners have to be prepared by volunteer as we don't sleep near the harvest area. But during helping days, food will be provided. When you have your free time, food will not be provided. Usually we put many things in the fridge, we have our own tomato sauce and eggs.
It is important to keep the room clean during your stay.
There is no internet connection.
Very important : the fireplace can't be used for security reasons and is not allowed to smoke in the room, only outside.
Important to know about olive harvesting. The olive harvesting activity depends on the weather forecast. During harvesting if it starts raining we must stop and continue the next day or perhaps after two or three days if the soil is still wet (we especially work during weekends) . So is a flexible activity sometimes we can work 5 hours sometimes more than five or less etc , we are engaged in the olive harvest for the making of organic extra virgin olive oil. - soil cleaning - pruning of fruit trees - cutting of wood for heating - help with tailoring - cleaning of the house and common areas - watering of flowers and vegetables - painting and ordinary maintenance- cutting wood
At the moment we are only looking for volunteers for olive harvesting and some light maintainance around the house.
- pulizia casa e aree comuni
- innaffiare fiori e ortaggi
- tinteggiatura e manutenzione ordinaria
- cura del pollaio e raccolta uova biologiche
ONLY MONTH OF AUGUST
It is an ancient rite, without errors, which has been repeated for generations and whose origins are lost in the mists of time.
The period dedicated to the preparation is always the same: early August or the end of the month, when the tomato reaches its maximum ripeness.
A job that partly goes beyond modern technologies, even if the equipment for preparing the sauce is cutting-edge.
For the preparation, young and old, seniors and teenagers, from the same family unit or simply sharing good neighborly relations, gather at the same table, each with a specific task and job.
The location for the preparation of the tomato sauce is usually a tavern, "fondaco" in some dialects.
The houses are filled with the good smell of San Marzano tomatoes, considered the king of the category, "the prince of sauces" they say in Naples, and basil, in bunches, which is used to perfume the bottles even more.
There are those who buy basil; luckily there are still the grandmothers "like in the past", who even without a bun or "zinalino" cultivate the scented leaves on their terraces.
And then there is the hunt for bottles that must be intact, without labels or dents: the shiny, brand-new airtight caps, the screwdriver to ensure that the sauce "does not leak".
Jars and bottles, then, will be sterilized at the moment. Stoppers are a "modern" thing, before, in the 1950s, cork was used, tied with a sturdy string.
Going back to everyone's ritual and duties, there is room for everyone at the work table: there are those who wash the tomatoes, those who remove the seeds and stalks, those who remove the green part, those who prepare and supervise the gas cylinder with the cauldron, "ru cuttur", which will then house the bottles of sauce for boiling.
The bottles are wrapped in clean cloths, arranged so as not to break, in an almost geometric design that has been repeated for years and which is no longer a mystery to any mother or grandmother, who has been repeating this tradition for years.
"Ru cuttur" is jealously guarded from year to year, legend has it that there are some that have been around for at least 60 years, made from old petrol cans, cleaned and shaped as needed.Langues

we are accepting volontaires of all nationalities that al least understand a bit of italian....anche solo Buongiorno va bene ;). ......Hébergement
The big room with a kitchen in the corner where you will be sleeping is on the ground floor and has 2 single beds and has an independent entrance of the cottage. The small bathroom is OUTSIDE
The other place where we can accommodate is the warehouse, we put two beds there.
There is only one not modern bathroom but clean and it is outside near the trees but it has hot water for the shower 🚿
There are also other families that live in this cottage. (please no loud music after 9 pm) It is located in a country side and there is a food shop at half an hour walk (about 3 km) and a butcher that also sells cheese at about 20 minutes walk (about 2 km).
This year we can accomodate directly on the spot where we will be Olive harvesting.
We can host only four volunteers for the period that will share the same room, where there is also the kitchen.
There is a SMALL BATHROOM OUTSIDE. There is a shower with hot water. Important to know about the boiler that heats the water for the shower. The boiler has to be switched on 2 hours before the shower and then has to be SWICHED OFF when nobody uses it. Of course if two persons need hot shower, you must wait half an hour from a shower and another shower so it can get warm again.
During the harvest at lunch time we will be eating together.
Sometimes at dinner we will be eating together, other times you will have to prepare your meal. Food will be provided for the evening only during harvest days.
At the end of day we leave and we will see each other next day.
Important: as there is neighbor upstairs is not allowed listen to high volume music and arrange parties.Autres infos...
