I stayed at Sonja and Sam's place through the spring this year. I had the most enjoyable time; they are very generous and kind hosts. The home is lovely, and my accommodations were 5-star; they also fed me very well! The work was at times vigorous but not overwhelming, and I had private time and away-time as needed. I learned about goat keeping and was even lucky enough to see the triplets born the day before my departure. I also enjoyed the connection with the dogs and horses.
The locale is lovely, and while it is familiar to me from my early years, it was significant to reconnect with the geology and ecology of the Mulmur Hills. So very beautiful.
After spending time with them, I now have genuine friends, despite arriving as a stranger.

I had a wonderful stay with Sonja and Sam. Sonja was incredibly welcoming from the moment she picked me up and I loved the car journey where she instantly made me feel like I was part of the family. Their hobby farm was beautiful and I loved every one of the animals who Sonja and Sam evidently knew how to treat and train very well. I loved being
… read more around Sonja as she was working and getting to soak up some of her skills and knowledge around hoof care, natural horsemanship and The Masterson Method. The work was always interesting like clearing stalls, feeding animals, and collecting eggs. I had injured myself when I first arrived and Sonja was very considerate to ensure that I had some time to heal and then that the tasks were ones that I was able to do and build as I was getting better. Their home was lovely and warm and Sonja invited me along to some events she attended which was really nice. Sonja and Sam are wonderful people. I stayed with Sonja and Sam for nearly 3 weeks late August and September 2024 and it was a real pleasure meeting them and helping them (and just living with them) !
They both are so interesting and caring people, I loved our talks and spending time with them !

… read more the barn (and scooping poo), helped Sonja with her business, … just life on a farm ! From the rides in the forest, the hikes with the dogs or just cuddling with all the animals (they are so, so cute and sweet), it has been a real pleasure to be there !
I had my own bedroom and bathroom and we always had diners together ! It was nice to have meals with local products (from the garden or the region)… And fresh goat cheese ! I was really well fed !
My only regret is to not have stayed longer ! Thank you for everything ! And may our paths cross again !Feedback

Sonya and Sam were very welcoming when I came to stay with them for a few weeks. They are both very knowledgeable in a variety of things which was good fun to discuss and learn from them. Sonya was really helpful in trying to find options for me after my stay through different contacts and idea.I'd highly recommend anyone to have a stay with them.

… read more animals are very cute and well behaved, I loved the dogs and I loved riding Dakota. Sam and Sonja's got a very nice house, I stayed in my own room with adjoining bathroom.
Sonja's cooking is amazing and it was also very interesting to see, what she produces out of my goats' milk.
Thanks for making it so easy for me to start workawaying and thanks for those exceptional 20 days!

Sonja was so kind during my entire stay and made sure I had everything I need, and I can warmly recommend this Workaway Experience to everybody who seeks to be surrounded by nature with two great people! The daily chores did not feel like work at all, because spending time outside with the animals was like quality time to me.

Luka stayed with us for over a month in April, and it was a pleasure having her around! Although the weather was not the very best we managed to get quite a bit done outside, despite the wet and cold. She is self-motivated and was very interested in learning everything, and I felt very comfortable leaving the farm in her hands when we were out. She seemed to truly enjoy and appreciate our rural life 'in the woods' (knowing that the big city was not all that far to get to ;) !). Luka is welcome in our house any time, and we hope to see her visit us again in the future!

We had great time at Sam's and Sonja's place. We have spent nearly 6 weeks there, 4 weeks in total with them and the rest we farmsit their place.
It was great opportunity to learn from Sonja's and Sam's wisdom and life experiences. The stay with them opened our eyes in many different ways. Their practical skills and knowledge is really inspiring.
… read more Sonja knows her animals very well, we learned a lot about horses, goats and animal care in general, and about healthier lifestyle. And Sam.. Sam is.. simply Swiss. He's perfect at every aspect of what is he doing, his logical thinking, his opinions.. He is very smart guy, it was always nice to listen to him.
Their place is wonderful. Hidden in the woods, lots of trails to walk without meeting any people. Accomodation was perfect, like a 5 star hotel. Plus we felt like a part of family since the first day.

I spend 2,5 weeks at Sonja's lovely home :) here I could really acclimate to the new continent and get to know the routines at a small farm. We had lots of good and deep talks and she taught my quite some stuff e.g. hoof care, training methods and ground work with the horses. That was my pleasure to stay at Sonja and Sam's beautiful place! It was all about the healthy life style and love of the animals and nature! This was my first workaway exerience and although I only was there for one and a half weeks, it was a wonderful time. Sonja and Sam immediately made me feel welcome into their home and were always willing to make shure everything was okay with me.
