 - Description- Hello!
We (Lisa & Jeff) live in the beautiful Northwest of Tasmania, Australia.
We have a small homesteading property that we share with two young cats and a few chickens! Our property is not a business, so any help needed by travellers is just for our own personal consumption & aesthetics, not for selling to general public.
We enjoy growing food and immersing ourselves in the surrounding environment\community.
The last couple of years, for one reason or another, we've just gotten a bit behind with keeping up with the garden and yard - which is where we are looking for the majority of help.
We've hosted people for years in one way or another and thoroughly enjoy introducing guests to our beautiful area, hiking, kayaking, visiting beaches and waterfalls.
If you enjoy nature... We are sure you will enjoy a visit with us.

 - Echange culturel et opportunités d'apprendre- I am Australian, my husband, Jeff, is Canadian.
We both have an interest in Japan. I've lived there and we both enjoy travelling there and hosting Japanese friends when they travel to Australia.
Locally, I am involved in some community events which people are most welcome to join in on.
This could be in the local community garden, or joining in various workshops. I am involved in the basket weaving workshops, paper making and soap making workshops.
There are many more events happening weekly to choose from.
We are pretty flexible and happy to arrange time for visitors to get involved locally if they wish.
We also welcome the opportunity to meet new people, learn about their home, food, language and life!
 - Aide- The bulk of the tasks needed here at the moment is wrestling our gardens back under control!!
As mentioned, our property is not a business, so we are fairly relaxed about our lifestyle... It's not super high powered go go go all the time.
No experience is really necessary for the gardening side of things... I (Lisa) will be helping alongside with you, so I can guide anyone super new to gardening, or just point out what I need done to seasoned gardeners!
It's helpful if you don't mind getting in with some physical help and getting grubby! ( We have a lot of red soil!)
Anyone with handy maintenance skills would also be welcome as there are a number of small tasks that need to be done at some point too.
There are also some local community groups and gardens we can get into as well!
 Terrible weather days...
Sometimes Tasmania can throw some pretty testy weather at us.
There are always plenty of indoor tasks to be help on if we don't feel like braving the weather.
Things like seed sorting, cooking (jams\relishes) and if anyone is interested, I'll teach you soapmaking!
 - Langues- Langues parlées
 Anglais: Courant
Japonais: Intermédiaire- Cet hôte propose un échange linguistique
If our guest are Japanese, I'd love to have the opportunity to practice my language skills and learn more.
 - Hébergement- We have a private room for guests, queen bed, so suit single traveller or couple.
If friends are travelling together and need separate sleeping spots, we can organise the upstairs space to accommodate.
Our home is an old federation house... Comfortable but definitely not modern! (She's over 100 years old now!)
A wood fire heats the living room so we can be snug in winter.
We only have a single bathroom, but we've always managed quite ok when filling the house with family and friends.
Food wise, we just eat all the regular foods... I like to try to provide lots of vegetables and salads from the garden (depending on the season).
We aren't too far from town to raid the supermarkets, so guests can pick up special foods to accommodate specific diet requirements.
I'll make sure there are breakfast and lunch foods for people to help themselves, but I do a cooked evening meal.
 - Autres infos...- While this area is beautiful and has great places to explore... Our public transport system is a bit... Woeful.
If you don't have your own car you will be quite limited to dashing off to do your own thing.
However, guests are more than welcome to come along with us on our hiking adventures , or we can drop you off at the local beaches or towns.
We have kayaks too that visitors are welcome to borrow and go for a paddle (summer time thing!)
We genuinely enjoy taking people to our local sightseeing areas, so even without a vehicle, we will make sure you get a decent look around!
 House Rules:
Nothing too daunting. The most important thing here is the safety and comfort of our cats.
We live on a busy country highway, so being extremely mindful not to let them out pretty much tops our house rule list.
They are young and still very much pushing boundaries!!
So people who like animals\cats and don't mind a bit of fur floating about are best suited to staying here.
 No smoking\vaping.
We are on tank water. So we do need to be mindful of water consumption, especially in summer or times of low rainfall.
Helping with house chores such as keeping your room in a reasonable state, help with preparing meals and cleaning up afterwards, small errands like emptying the compost or bringing up firewood.
 - Informations complémentaires - Accès Internet
 - Accès Internet limité
 - Nous avons des animaux
 - Nous sommes fumeurs
 - Familles bienvenues

 - Combien de volontaires pouvez-vous accueillir ?- Plus de 2
 - Mes animaux- Dot - Dot is the brains of the feline duo. She is also a good natured little cat, she just takes a lot longer to warm up to visitors than her sister.
Quiet chats and patience to win her over.

Thank you for giving me so many new experiences. Even though it was only two weeks, I was able to enjoy so many wonderful moments, and they have become unforgettable memories in my life.
I feel like I learned so much from both of you, and maybe I wasn’t able to contribute much as a Workaway helper.
