    Description

My wife and myself have 88 acre fully off-grid permaculture farm in Sorrento, BC, Canada. Purchased property in 2013 and now have gone fully off grid and developed small scale production of poultry meat, eggs, lamb, beef, and "food forest" which includes a variety of fruit trees, raspberry, strawberries, asparagus, and vegetable gardens. We have also started planting for an apple cidery with our first 400 apple trees started in a nursery. We are in our third year of food production and want to continue expanding the farm activities with a goal of being sustainable for food and cashflow within the next 5 years. We seek a young couple or person(s) experienced in successful sustainable organic or permaculture market gardening, greenhouse food production, to join us. We are planning to build and install year round geo air greenhouse(s) as well as pasture based layer mobile coops and rotating pasture management with layers, meat chickens, cattle and sheep, as well as expanding our pasture meat bird production and local food marketing including website and social marketing and developing a CSA program. If you are keen to go off grid, interested in permaculture and farming full time, not afraid of working outdoors year round and going totally off grid for power, food, water, etc. than send us your details and we can discuss further.

See above, we are one of the very few off grid permaculture farms in Canada. We focus on reducing the carbon footprint of operating a farm and improving the sustainability using regenerative permaculture farming techniques. We produce our own water, power, heat, and cycle nutrients within the farm reducing any farm inputs as much as possible and continuing to improve our farming processes and quality outputs.

In the Spring we will be starting plants in the greenhouse and building up the manure piles for composting and getting the soils ready for planting. We have a mobile chicken coop to build for 200 layers, and two new mobile chicken tractors to add to the four we already have in operation. We have a small barn renovation project underway. We have 35 varieties of heritage apple nursery trees to transplant into an orchard setting. In summer months we have some forest management to undertake including moving dead logs out of the forest for processing and then splitting and stacking wood in the wood shed for winter. We also have hay making activities starting in late June all the way to late August processing and storing up to 4,000 bales of hay for the winter time. Year round care needed for flock of sheep, small number of cattle, two horses, turkeys, meat chickens and layers. We can use some help in preparing for the three farmers markets we attend including processing eggs, asparagus, strawberries, raspberries, tree fruit and meat products for sale. We can show you and train you on all the activities until you are comfortable undertaking them on your own. Great experiences for those that want to learn about permaculture and farming hands on. lambing and calving april, may, june. We are specifically looking for people who have experience with riding and training young horses.
