Sylvie is an amazing workaway host. From the beginning she was kind and understanding. I accidently gave her the wrong pickup time and she had no problems coming a second time to meet me at the train station.

… read more friendship that she offers made my stay feel like a family visit. And if you like good conversation then Sylvie is a treat, but maybe not too much talking when she's cooking, both of us tended to forget about the food 😅.
On your days off and during days when the work is light she tries to take you to see local landmarks. If you need anything she will make sure to get it for you from the store. She notices what foods you like and buys more of the same or like it so you can try more French food and culture. Her dog Paf is a adorable and likes to make fast friends.
You have a room and bathroom to yourself and if there's a chance to go and see horse competitions she'll take you.
This was my first workaway experience and I was really worried how it would work out. I only speak (very) beginner french, don't really like mornings, and, before this, have never worked with horses before. It was an incredibly new experience for me and I think I am better for it.
Luckily, Sylvie is absolutely amazing. She has incredibly good English and excellent French, although i'm not really the person to ask about French. She used to be a school teacher and directresse so she is patient and understands learning. I came with the intention of improving my French and because of all of our conversations it has imoroved greatly.
She doesnt know a single unkind person. Everyone you meet with Sylvie is warm and open. As my first Workaway experience, I couldn't have hoped for better. Sylvie, her mother Josette and her daughter Amandine are welcoming, open and impressive women. My primary purpose in joining Workaway for this year was to improve my French and seek solitude to write. I came away with some wonderful experiences, new knowledge and new
… read more friendships. Sylvie is extremely hard working, very thoughtful and always sought to make my stay as comfortable as it could be.
The work is about 4-4.5 hours a day, 6 days a week. A few hours in the morning to help feed, change and put the horses in their fields, as well as muck out the boxes. In the evening, just under an hour (or less) to bring them back and feed them for the night.
Depending on the clients, there are about 13 horses, all with individual personalities and very beautiful. I came with no knowledge but lots of interest, and always felt safe with the experience and care that Sylvie and Amandine showed. They were happy to teach me everything that needed to be done, or answer questions I had.
The work is straightfoward, and depending on your fitness, certain tasks can take a short amount of time to build a good method. It was great to be working in the fresh air with good company, or alone depending on the task. The afternoons are yours to spend alone before looking after the horses in the evening, however Sylvie was always happy to take me to an interesting museum or a beautiful beach. We even spent most of one day at Mont Saint-Michel, which was terrific.
I was lucky enough to horseback ride on Uiclo, Sylvie's horse. She and Amandine helped obtain insurance after the first few weeks and gave me a few lessons with exercises! It was really exhilarating.
Meals were great, varied and taught me about the Norman cuisine! I prepared my own lunches most days just to maximise my independent working time.
I was lucky to speak some French before coming, and I do think it is very helpful to be able to. Sylvie and Josette speak a bit of English but are most at home in French, although they are very warm and happy to give anything a positive try. We spoke completely in French except for the occasional word, and I came away much improved! Sylvie was very helpful in this regard.
I will note that the wifi worked for probably about 60% of my stay, (to be expected in the countryside), and it is not very fast. Personally, it rarely posed too much of a problem, however if you really feel the need to have it fast and constant, it's not always the case.
The room is extremely comfortable with a nice desk and your own bathroom with bath. There are regularly four gorgeous dogs around for cuddles and play. Conversation is always vivid, informative and enriching with this family.
I was very sad to leave after a wonderful seven weeks. This is a genuine family who want to share the best experience they possibly can with their guest. I was so lucky and grateful to have met them.

Pour ma première expérience Workaway, je n'aurais pas pu espérer mieux. Sylvie, sa mère Josette et sa fille Amandine sont des femmes accueillantes, ouvertes et impressionnantes. Mon objectif principal en joignant Workaway cette année était d’améliorer mon français et de rechercher la solitude pour écrire. Je suis reparti avec de belles expériences, de nouvelles connaissances et de nouvelles amitiés. Sylvie travaille très dur, est très attentionnée et a toujours cherché à rendre mon séjour aussi confortable que possible.
Le travail est d'environ 4-4,5 heures par jour, 6 jours par semaine. Quelques heures du matin pour aider à nourrir, changer et mettre les chevaux dans leurs champs, ainsi que pour défaire les box. Le soir, un peu moins d'une heure (ou moins) pour les ramener et les nourrir pour la nuit.
Selon les clients, il y a environ 13 chevaux, tous avec des personnalités individuelles et très beaux. Je suis venu sans connaissances, mais avec beaucoup d’intérêt et je me suis toujours senti en sécurité grâce à l’expérience et aux soins prodigués par Sylvie et Amandine. Elles étaient heureux de m'apprendre tout ce qui devait être fait ou de répondre aux questions que j'avais.
Le travail est franc, et selon votre condition physique, certaines tâches peuvent prendre un peu de temps pour élaborer une bonne méthode. C'était génial de travailler à l'air frais en bonne compagnie ou seul, en fonction de la tâche. Vous pourrez passer l’après-midi seul avant de vous occuper des chevaux le soir, cependant Sylvie a toujours été heureuse de me conduire dans un musée intéressant ou sur une belle plage. Nous avons même passé la majeure partie de la journée au Mont Saint-Michel, ce qui était fantastique.
J'ai eu la chance de faire de l'équitation sur Uiclo, le cheval de Sylvie. Elle et Amandine a aidé à obtenir une assurance après les premières semaines et m'a donné quelques leçons d'exercices! C'était vraiment exaltant.
Les repas étaient bons, variés et m'ont appris la cuisine normande! Je préparais mes propres déjeuners la plupart des jours pour maximiser mon temps de travail indépendant.
J'ai eu la chance de parler un peu de français avant de venir et je pense que c'est très utile de pouvoir le faire. Sylvie et Josette parlent un peu l'anglais mais sont très à l'aise en français, même si elles sont très chaleureuses et heureuses de tenter leur chance. nous avons parlé complètement en français sauf quelques mots, et je suis reparti bien amélioré. Sylvie a été très utile à cet égard.
Je noterai que le wifi a fonctionné probablement pour environ 60% de mon séjour (à prévoir à la campagne), et ce n'est pas très rapide. Personnellement, cela posait rarement trop de problèmes, mais si vous sentez vraiment le besoin de le faire rapidement et constamment, ce n'est pas toujours le cas.
La chambre est extrêmement confortable avec un beau bureau et votre propre salle de bain avec baignoire. Il y a régulièrement quatre magnifiques chiens pour les câlins et jouer. La conversation est toujours vive, informative et enrichissante avec cette famille.
J'étais très triste de partir après sept semaines merveilleuses. C’est une famille authentique qui souhaite partager la meilleure expérience possible avec son invité.
